Yes, being indexed is definitely a good thing as it means that your site's existance has been noticed. The next step is to get ranked - i.e. compared to and rated against all other sites covering the same subject. The better your site is, the higher you'll rank. Your aim is always to make page1 and position 1 is the ultimate goal.
