To my fellow ADHD and ADD IMers

I am dedicating this post to all of us who are afflicted with any of the ADD types... mine in particular = Adult Attention Deficit Disorder/Inattentive a/k/a ADHD-PI

And I am responding to the heartache that Caitenmj is feeling because it is so very difficult to get past any type of ADD especially when medication isn't an option.  Or even when it is.

Internet Marketing.. when we are on our own and learning in this type environment with no voices, no faces, no ability to ask a question and get an immediate response....the anxiety and frustration levels are overwhelming.  Add the ADD stuff on top of it..well, I can't explain it.  It's tough.  It's really really tough.

I LOVE what I am doing but sometimes it is painful.  I mean really, truly, mentally painful to get through the day.  The lack of ability to stay focused is B R U T A L.

Caite's blog post struck a note with me today... I've been feeling the same way.  Staying on task while surrounded with shiny things....  ADD/ADHD people love shiny things.... well, it's crazy.

So, Caite, what I did, just this morning... was go through all my email, all my saved links, all the rest of the crap that has been taking up disk space on my laptop and got rid of everything except for EOS, OWM, WA and a few (very few) special articles and suggestions from WA folks.  The rest of it. I TRASHED.  It will all be there tomorrow and the next day and the next day after that.   If I need it or even want it.   I was so distracted that I started to cry simply out of frustration.

I am literally starting from scratch again.

I am taking all of what I have learned and continue to learn from the above-mentioned (and wonderful) tutorials, and I am WRITING DOWN THE STEPS.  Every single one of the them.  Until I know them.  100% inside out.  And I am publicly making a commitment to myself (by telling all of you) that I am putting aside everything else.   I am committing to not opening one single solitary shiny looking email or website or anything... until I have certain things NAILED.

And what I will say about a lot of us ADD peeps, is that once we get the process down... I mean REALLY GET IT DOWN... lookout!!!    It's just getting there...  so if we bug all you other non-ADD type people a lot with what seem to be repeated questions and desperate need for details and explanations .. bear with us.  Without you, we will fail.. so we'll be a burden for a while until we can give back what you give us every day :)

Caite...and the others like me, it is possible for us to succeed - we just  have to learn coping mechanisms and other ways to work around what sounds so simple and clear to others - but in MY head it feels like Pop Rocks.

hey, thanks! I gave some to you too!

I think I will sprinkle a little gold around today :)

*endless

Gosh... every one of you has said things that are so meaningful, helpful... and so valuable. This really is a great community and I'm so glad I stumbled upon WA...

i know absolutely nothing about ADHD..or ADD..i don't have either..nor do i know anyone personally who does..but that's ok since my comment has nothing to do with either anyway..i just wanted to comment quickly on your little blurb about writing things down by hand...i think there's something to be said for forcing yourself to do that..even when you have the information all typed up nice, staring you in the face...write them down by hand anyway..that information will anchor itself into your brain a lot more efficiently, the more senses you use..anyway..that's all i really have to say on that..

Don't worry, we were all newbies at one point along the way Antoine. You are going to get the hang of this and as you move through the training (especially since you have some past biz experience), things are really going to start to fall in place for you. :)

I look forward to working with you and simply drop me a reply if you ever need a hand with anything.

PS. I hope you have an awesome week ahead!

I don't have ADD or ADHD, but I too get distracted so easily...by shiny things, by emails, by housework, by my 2 young kids. So, I guess I feel your pain on some level. Focus is really hard for me too. I am also on unemployment and about to run out so that is not helping my focus! (Even though I suppose that should be my Focus Catalyst!) But, from what I've read, you're doing great so far. So keep doing more of that!

kadcpp: yes, me to on the unemployment thing. It is NOT fun. I'm not paying for in-laws but I did just finish supporting my unemployment 27 year old son for 7 months who was no longer eligible for unemployment compensation. What a mess we are all in these days. Anyway, I feel your pain but appreciate the "Focus Catalyst" comment. I like it.

Joan. Watermelon. That is the funniest thing I've ever heard. It sounds similar to things that go on in my house but reading it is hysterical. Thanks for the big chuckle.

Wow! Maybe I have ADD. Kathy, with or without ADD, this experience challenges even the most anal retentive types like me. I have too many email boxes, all full. I delete them once a week, go back in and I have another 1000 messages. You cannot be the poster child for ADD because my friend Joyce is. She left a watermelon in the middle of the kitchen floor and totally forgot about it.

I to am afflicted and feel your pain however I am out of work (No Income except unemployment) and currently I am paying both my mortgage and my mother in laws. This driving factor is helping me stay more focused than I have ever been in my life. Find Your Focus Catalyst and it will be easier.
