Looking Back Where I Came From

• In my younger years, I was born in a village where our home is far from the community of people. Our source of living is farming and fishing because our house is near the coastline and rice field, down by the mountain side. Our school when I enroll my primary education is five kilometers away. One room combined by Grade one and Grade two with only one Teacher. But at that time, we have a peaceful living. I can say that we belong to a poor family. My parents have only average income, but we don't lack of everything since we have enough livelihood. When I was in high school, my father buy me a bicycle in going to school everyday. I take only a Vocational Course.
• When I finish my study, at the age of 18 years old, I work on a fishing vessel. My uncle is a Skipper of that fishing vessel so I was easily hired. Since I was familiar at sea, so the work is not hard for me. Starting from our departure, we venture fishing until our boat is loaded of assorted fish. So we go to different places of fishing ground in the Philippines Islands. At that time, fishing is a good business because the sea is abundant of fish. I start a monthly salary of 240 pesos. But when we dock to unload the catch, we have extra money because of sideline. And after the sell, the owner giving bonus if the profit is good.
  
• Then it came to my mind,... other Skipper has no educational background but they become a good navigator. So? I study the Chart, the Weather and how to run the vessel. After 6 months, I became a First Officer since my Captain is relying me of the paper works in the ship.
  
• Five years experience to be qualified to take a Skipper Examination. I take the examination and passed the exam! At the age of 23 years old, I'm a License Captain, but with limited gross tonnage of a ship. And that was the start of my career, traveling to other country.
