Hey folks, So I joined Wealthy Affiliate on Sunday and have been working hard to build the content in my website. My niche is Formula 1. I have followed it for many many years and so find it very easy and enjoyable to write about it, and if I can make some money from this passion then that will be amazing! I decided to go premium yesterday to continue learning and building my website and I have no regrets yet!! Here is my website as it stands, obviously it is unfinished... www.anythingf1.com

I have never done anything like this before, I have basic computer skills but I am very proud to have built a website that I hope you think looks professional! I would love to say in 3 months that somebody has used my website to buy something that would be awesome, and just hope it continues to grow really!

Thanks for looking!!

Congrats on going Premium Nathan and I really do look forward to working with you. I like what you have done with your site thus far, I do have a few recommendations here.

(1) I would never suggest building out a big menu with "blank" content. Build out your website and your navigation as you actually create the content. Unless you plan on adding content to all of these sections right away, I would remove the ones that don't.

It will be a far less overwhelming experience this way and if your users (and Google) visit a bunch of empty pages it is not going to be a good thing for their experience nor your rankings.

(2) Try to keep your top menu on ONE line. Anything more than that can be overwhelming.

You can add these custom menus to organize your top menu in any way in which you like, as well as create sub-menus (for themes that will support this). You can also use these custom menus to add within your side widgets on your website (within your sidebar).

Here is a tutorial on how to create custom menus: I use custom menus on all of my websites (over-ride that default menu). It allows much more control and organization....both good things!

If you ever want a website review from the community, I highly recommend that you take advantage of the SiteFeedback system here at Wealthy Affiliate.

This is a give and take system, meaning that as you offer others feedback on your website you are going to earn credits so you can request reviews from others. This is a pay it forward community afterall. :)

Hi Kyle, I hope you're well. A massive thank you for taking the time to comment, I have finished course 2 now, have my own domain and e-mail... SUPER EXCITED!!
Ok great thanks for your comments, I am in the process of cleaning up my blank content now, Gary Skoglind has been so helpful as he is interested in Formula 1 as well, he helped me add a widget on the side of my page with the current standings and calender so that is great as I can now delete 2 of my main menu items and leave more room for my personal content!!
I will watch your video now, I am glad you suggested to keep the menu to one bar as when viewing on my ipad the items on the 2nd line were not visible.
I agree totally about helping others, once I get my feet on the ground with my content and feel I have learnt a lot I will be helping the beginners just like others have done for me.

Thanks Kyle

Morning Kyle, I hope you're all good. Nice sunny day here in the UK! I have another quick question about my menu titles...

Lets take my 'History' menu as an example, now this needs to be a key word that will get searched in google right? So I have been to Jaaxy and found a keyword that is relevant to the page with a low QSR etc. It is 'F1 Winners History'.

So firstly is this correct?

If so, it is quite a long title for my menu, and if I do the same for all my menu titles then instead of having, for example 8 one word menu titles, I might only be able to fit 4 key word 'phrases' on my menu bar without going to 2 menu bars?

Does this make sense to you? What are your thoughts?

Starting course 3 today!! Also joining Jaaxy as I am now out free of keyword searches!!

Have a great day

Your menu titles just have to make sense, the absolutely do not need to be keywords nor do they have to match the actual title of the page/post that you are sending people to exactly.

That should solve your problem, just do what makes sense to your audience and will lead to a good navigational experience for your visitors, you can totally disregard keywords.

You are welcome, and I know you will find the resources, tools and help you need to succeed here. Welcome once again.
