Warning to All WA Members: Calls from WA?

I just want to put the word out there about a bunch of scam calls claiming to be from WA or a company associated with it. I've seen a lot of people asking if the "calls from WA" they're getting are legit.

Let's start with this: If you are getting a "call from WA" or a call from a "company associated with WA" then it's fake. It's 110% fake. WA does not even collect this information and you will never get calls from them.

So where are these calls coming from. If you followed along with Kyle's video on purchasing a domain you'll likely recall that NameCheap had a free "WhoIs Protection package". You may not think this is a big deal, but it's actually very important to have, even if it's not free.

Without WhoIs protection people can use just your domain name to find your full name, phone number, address, etc. It's pretty freaky when you think about it. It's also easy to see if you're hosted with WA.

So if you haven't pieced it together here's what's been happening:

  1. Scammers find domains associated with WA's servers.
  2. They run a WhoIs search on the domain and if there's no protection they collect your information.
  3. They use that phone number and the knowledge you use WA to try and sell you something by claiming to be from WA.

So once again I repeat: WA will never call you. WA does not collect that information. If you get a call from WA or anyone claiming to be associated with WA then hang up.

If you've gotten these calls leave a comment below and share as many details as possible. Everyone please put the word out there about this and if you see anyone mentioning a call from WA show them this post.

Thanks for the warning bell, Zachary. Appreciate. :)

Thanks for the heads up!

Good to know...thanks for the heads up.

I received three emails last weekend purporting to be from Namecheap with information to reset my password. They came minutes apart. I'm now wondering if this is linked to what you have written about. I had not requested to reset my password.

Thanks for sharing this, not heard about anything like this but still good to know
