Getting overwhelmed with being an "authority"
I'm starting to get actual likes and real engagement on my Facebook page. And as soon as I got my first comment I became terrified.
I mean, I already knew I'd have issues with being looked at as an authority on my niche even though I don't feel like I am...
But I feel like I need to have all the answers for everyone with all these health problems and I don't have all the answers. It feels like by not knowing EVERYTHING I'm letting them down or that I look like a fake.
Big-time imposter syndrome.
I've been learning like crazy but there's so much I don't know.
And my issues with being responsible for other people are surfacing. It's absolutely overwhelming.
Does anyone else feel this way? How do you deal with it?
I feel like part of the reason I've always tried avoiding leadership positions ( though not always successful) is that I don't want to be responsible for other people's experiences. Never mind their health and happiness.
And yet I DO want to make a positive impact. This makes me question my niche and I wonder if I just should have gone with my other niche instead because I feel more solid with it.
Any advice?

I don't think anyone ever gets to the point where you *feel* like an authority, heck, I certainly don't - but because I've been doing this so long now I have experiences that I can share with the people who follow me & I realize that my experiences are very helpful to them because they're at the earlier stages of their journey. So, it's not really about becoming an "authority", it's just about building a following of people with less experience than you & sharing your personal experiences... But to those people, you *are* an authority (if that makes sense), lol.
That's true. It definitely seems like others are more comfortable with being seen as an "authority" but they may not "feel" like one either. No one knows everything and I don't have to be so hard on myself.
Nicole I would say that once you approach your audience with honesty you will be surprised how understanding they generally are. Do you best to respond but if you do not know the answer do the research and find out. And if you are still stumped say that you will have to get back to them with a resource that may be able to. Once you add value I am sure you will continue to grow in Authority.
Thank you. I know I appreciate honesty from the people that I follow. I just have to be patient with my learning process.
We understand where you are coming from and have had the same feelings. But as time has passed we learned more and more about our niche. We use google like Sherlock Holmes. Whenever we come across a term we don't understand we ask the when, why, how, what questions. The more questions we ask the more we learn and formulate our expertise.
You are making great progress and on the right path. keep it up.
Feeling uncomfortable just raises the bar to a new level of achievement and knowledge.
Hi Nicole , thanks for the helpful post , first up I would like to give you an advice , once you have done your best , you can feel satisfied with your own contribution, and also remember you can't do it all , am proud of you because you are doing a lot to grow your business , which everyone has to do , but getting overwhelmed can cause Panic which lead to zero progress , and you definitely don't want that , so break a little from Facebook , and reduce your time on that platform , that should help
Thank you. I think taking a step back from trying to build up my facebook page is great advice. Slow and steady!

Hi there, don't worry, you are not the only one who feels that way. Even if you know a lot about your niche, there will always be something you won't know about. The best is to do your research, if the niche interests you, of course, and give your opinion. That's it. Just keep it up. Now if you feel more comfortable with the other niche, you may want to continue with it:)
Thank you. My other niche has been calling out to me more recently and becoming hard to ignore. I feel like it's more closely aligned with my "purpose" in life. I'm still passionate about my current holistic health niche, but it's hard to compete with my PURPOSE ya know? lol
I think I will keep at my current niche but with less intensity. And I'll slowly start building up my other one. I was afraid to go with my other one but I shouldn't let fear stop me.
