Is your content being shared on Delicious, StumbleUpon, or Diigo? If you are soley counting Facebook, Twitter, and Google + impact, you may be missing out on a huge market.

These lesser known Social Media platforms are breeding grounds for new visitors and customers. You may also be getting shared in these markets already and have no idea.

I recently discovered that 35% of all my website traffic is from StumbleUpon. Whats crazy is I don't even have a StumbleUpon account, yet my url was being shared across their platform.

What this means to me is I better get a StumbleUpon account real quick and maximize where my audience is hanging out.

To see how you are performing you can find a free social counter to measure your total social media impact and see where you need work and where you are most effective.

You should also use a social counter to do baseline testing when you implement a change in your social media strategy.

Ready to put this into action?

For example, if you decide that you were going to try to double your Facebook Likes in a 2 week period, you should take two baseline measurements:

1. How many Facebook "Likes" do you have right now

2. How many Facebook "Likes" do you average every 2 weeks

Knowing these numbers will help you know not only when you have reached your goal, but allow to measure how well your new strategy/change is working.

A baseline measurement is an accurate assessment of process functionality prior to any input change that occurs. Data can be used as a standard for measuring future efficiency in the process to help identify any problem.

Simply stated: Take a measurement now, make a strategy change and then remeasure to see the impact of your change.

One of the hardest thing to measure is your total impact on all social media. Sure you can look at your Facebook Fan page Likes, Your Twitter Retweets, and Google +1's, but there are so many other forms of social media that you may not be accounting for.

Do you know your social count numbers? Find a free counter that displays several of the social media platforms. You just paste in the URL you want to check and it returns the results for about 12 different platforms: here is the one I use:

I can tell you that my Twitter game is Awesome because I know how to get retweeted, but my Facebook game totally sucks and I need to do a better job of utilizing Facebook Fan page.
