You won't learn this in a college or university​

Entrepreneurship is a lost art in most business classes, in public colleges and universities. The leadership and business models seem to be tailored around the corporate America workforce. Marketing classes are not facilitating independant business startups, but more geared to graduate the next Corporate boardroom marketing campaign teams.

Courses such as internet marketing are not taught in most colleges, and yet just about anyone here at WA is learning a university degree worth of knowledge and experience in these areas. Why is it that colleges and universities are not offering courses on this cutting edge business transaction models? According to Stuart Draper in his digital textbook, Internet Marketing Essentials there are six primary reasons for this shortsightedness.

1. Most traditional marketing professors have no formal education in internet marketing.
2. Self-taught internet marketing education is time consuming, expensive, and difficult to do, if you don't have access to the right tools and a large budget.
3. Many professors fear that students will know as much or more about the internet than they do.
4. Internet marketing textbooks and other hard-copy materials are likely to be outdated as soon as they are published. If any educational pursuit is still in the Wild West days--this is it.
5. Professors often fear they will be teaching incorrect or fast-expiring principles. Some even think social media is a fad that will soon go away.
6. Adding and changing courses in the catalog requires considerable discussion and sign-off by school administration.

Please take a careful look at reasons 1 and 2. I find reason number two somewhat ironic, in light of the fact that Wealthy Affiliate is making self-taught, self-paced internet marketing extremely inexpensive (an annual cost of a typical community college 3-4 credit hour course), and so easy that even "a caveman could do it". Now, I won't mislead anyone and claim that success isn't going to require copious amounts of time and dedication. All worthwhile endeavors are time consuming. Now, reason number one may not be easily solved by having individuals that do have internet marketing training lecture and present relevant coursework assignments.

Nevertheless, the solutions are found in such learning environments as the Wealthy Affiliates courses and certification programs. There are some colleges that are beginning to offer courses similar to what Kyle,Carson, and many other bright and talented internet marketers are teaching us. The trouble is at what cost? Most of the colleges and universities that do offer courses in analytics, content marketing, SEO, social media management, conversion optimization, and marketing automation are only offered as electives, or a smaller focus of a marketing degree. Here at WA, we can all major in these subjects, and have the benefit of a helpful, nurturing, and fun environment. Furthermore, we won't have to worry about any of the material on this site being outdated, because it is being written and published by those that have and are becoming the industry experts.
