I Have Been Consitintly Trying To Build My Pinterest Account Bigger And Bigger. I Think That I Can Leverage My Account To Drive Massive Traffic, And Maybe Even Monetize. The Way I Created My Strategy, Was To Set Up Objectives One At Time And Then Track How Effective Each Thing That I Tried Was. For Example, I Broke My Overall Main Goals Into 3 Sections, Followers, Engagement, And Traffic That Effectively Went From My Acount Or A Pin To My Website.
I Would Try Certain Things With My Sole Focus On Increasing 1 Of My 3 Main Goals Stats.
Right Now, As You Can See I've Grown My Pinterest Account To 134,800 Monthly Viewers And Have 10,600 Of Those Viewers Engaged! This Has Had A Great Effect On My Traffic Numbers To Perfected Media And Esp For My Wealthy Affiliate Review! (You Can View By Clicking The Link Above.)
The Best Tips I Can Give You Without Really Going Into A Full Blown Walkthrough Is To Be Consistent, Make Sure You Post Reltive And Quality Content, Try To Give Value Or Have Intent Behind Each Piece Of Content As Well.
As Far As Growing Your Followers Try Doing A Follow / Unfollow Campaign And Being Persistant While Doing This Will Help You Out Majorly.

There Are 3 Main Content Places On Pinterest. 1) Boards 2)Pins 3)Group Boards... When People Ask You To Collaborate On Their Boards There Inviting You To There Group Board. Like Everything There Are Pros & Cons To Group Boards, Pros Are They Can Create Opportunities Some Group Boards Can have 10,000-100,000 Followers, Meaning If You Pin To It Your pin Instantly In Front Of All Those People!
