Don't Compare Yourself To Others

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed that most of us like to compare ourselves to others. While doing this isn’t all that bad, it can lead to a negative self-perception of ourselves, low self-esteem and confidence issues. When we constantly compare ourselves to others, we are mostly focusing on what that person has or doesn’t have. Why do we compare ourselves to each other? Because of status. We want to be like the person who has a great life and who’s successful. Those people tend to be happier, more friendly and they attract others.

Social media makes it even easier for us to compare ourselves. For example, when you’re on Facebook, you notice one of your friends just got married or got a new job. Since you want what they have, you constantly compare yourself to them because in your mind you’re thinking, “If she/he can get married or get a new job, why can’t I?” While it’s possible for you to accomplish those things, you have to understand that it may not be your time to get married or get a new job. God has everything planned out for everyone and he knows exactly when you’re going to get married or get that new job you’ve been waiting for.

Comparing ourselves to our friends only tears down our self-esteem in the process. We shouldn’t worry about what our friends are doing. Should you be happy that they got married or got a new job? Yes you should. But don’t obsess over it and think that he/she is better than you or they must be doing something that you’re not. Every time I used to log in to Facebook, I would always see a post from one of my friends saying that they’re engaged or in a relationship and it bothered me always seeing posts like that because I wanted to be in a relationship. I wanted what they had. Overtime I’ve realized that I shouldn’t really care about what they do. The only person I need to care about is myself and what I’m doing to better myself. If you focus more on what you’re doing in your life, you won’t even have time to worry about what your friends are doing. Focus on yourself and don’t worry about the rest

Yes is most important to focus to what it is under my nose. As Buda told: finish your job, which you started and want to start.
