My WA Progress So Far And The Sweet Things I've Learnt
As my homework for one of the lessons. I'm sharing with the wonderful world of WA, my progress so far.
My progress
When I joined almost 3 months ago, I had a flimsy translation business that was invisible on Google because the SEO was so bad. The site is now ranking for most of my keywords, some on the first page, others on the second and third etc. This is of course due to all the lessons I've learnt here that I have since applied to my site. And the amazing thing is, the site is less than 3 months old. Read on to see what I have learned:
1) Don't pay for backlinks on Fiverr!!!
I had done this about a year ago to try to boost my rankings. When I started delving into SEO after joining WA (with tools like Ahrefs and Moz),I realized the links I had paid for had shockingly high SPAM scores. I went about disavowing them in Google Console, but then realized it would take too long and since I didn't really like my domain name, I decided to start from a clean slate.
2) Getting the right domain name
So what domain name to go with? I made good use of namestation.com (which Kyle spoke about) where I paid $35 for a domain name contest. It was money well spent and I've since used it for another site of mine. My new translation site is https://translatepages.com which is way better than https://terrifictranslation.com.
3) Content is key
As cliched as this statement is, it is absolutely true because the more content you have the more entry points you have to your site. When this dawned on me, I hired content writers to write blog posts on everything related to the translation industry further including posts on literature and language.
I've also learnt that for a site like mine, offering a service, you must have city-specific blog posts because that's how people search. For example, I now have 7 South African city posts which all talk about the key aspects of my service, but each time saying it in a different way because Google doesn't like redundacy. I now pop up for searches like translation service durban or cape town translation agency.
4) New service for my biz
Since I've had such good success finding decent content writers, I'm now included that service on my translation site. Another indirect but great benefit of joining WA.
5) Comments
I've got about 150 comments for the site as a whole which obviously proves to Google that the site has useful information since people are willing to comment on it.
Paying for a comment is really money well spent as far as I'm concerned. I did earn a few comments in the beginning, but if you tally up the time it takes to leave a proper, helpful comment, I don't think the time is justified and you're better off writing content or learning about SEO instead. Sure, it's nice to help out fellow WA folk, but the time taken to do so must be evaluated.
6) Study successful WA members
My WA mentor has been incredibly successful and so I've done my best to adopt certain principles from his site. I'm NOT talking about content, I'm referring to things like layout, structure, font type, colour and size, use of images and social icons, recent post links etc. All the things that make a site look attractive and professional, the things that make reading a site easy and pleasurable. You might have the best content in the world, but if it's not presented beautifully and clearly, the bounce rate will be through the roof. My mentor doesn't even have any adsense because it's so distracting and that's not where his big money is made.
My affiliate sites
At this stage, you may be wondering why this guy is going on about his translation biz when this is an affiliate marketing community. Well, the point is, it doesn't matter what site you have, being a WA member will provide you with all the right SEO skills and knowledge to apply to any online biz.
I do have two Amazon affiliate sites which are slowly getting recognized by Google, but they haven't generated any income as yet. They are:
https://findyesterday.com which is all about things that make one nostalgic. I introduce nostalgic gift ideas and then link to Amazon.
https://knucklingdown.com is a self-empowerment site that covers health, wealth and wisdom. Also linking to Amazon, but I would like to link to higher paying affiliate networks as well.
Both these sites have about 10 articles each, but there is more content coming soon, Just waiting on my writers since they were focused mostly on my translation site.
A question to the WA community
Does anyone have any good suggestions on healthy wealthy or wise related products that I could review? And which affiliate network is best for them? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Goals
I'm mainly focused on getting more content for all 3 of my sites. I have also started to research higher-commissioned products so that I'm not just relying on Amazon. My major goal now, obviously is getting my first commission. Watch this space because I'll definitely be blogging about that milestone.

You are energetic and capable of taking care of three websites. I agreed with you, no backlinks.
