Continuing Update of Our Vacation in Greece

On day 6, we had to disembarked our cruise ship, bid farewell to the wonderful crew of our Celestyal ship near Athens and took off for a three-day road trip to the classical cities of Greece. And to answer your question Roy, we didn’t go to Thessaloniki but we went to the town nearby. We passed through several ancient towns, including Thebes (home of King Oedipus), on our way to Delphi, set majestically on the slopes of Mt. Parnassus, for a guided excursion. We marveled at the ruins of Sanctuary of Apollo, walked the marble Sacred Way and admired the 4th-century BC theater that’s still in use today, as well as the glorious “Charioteer of Delphi”, one of the best known and preserved examples of classical bronze statues.

On day 7, we passed through the beautiful medieval town of Nafpaktos on our way to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. We joined the local expert to tour the archaeological site and museums at Olympia, where the games were conceived as a tribute to Hercules, son of Zeus. As an enduring link between the ancient games and today’s Olympics, the Olympic flame is still lit in Olympia. We viewed the impressive remains of the Gymnasium. We viewed the impressive remains of the Gymnasium and the Temples of Hera and Zeus, as well as the magnificent Hermes of Praxiteles, the most famous statue in the Olympia Museum.

On day 8, on our way back to Athens, we visited the wonderfully preserved 2300 year- old theatre of Epidaurus. Our travel continued to ancient Mycenae, founded by Perseus and built with the help of the mythological Cyclops!

Our trip was very exhausting, having to wake up early everyday, climbing up on those ruins, but is well worth it , as this trip is a trip of a lifetime! My pictures does not justify the beauty of this country, along with its rich history and culture.

In a few days, our trip will end, the memories we will take with us has been incredibly meaningful and fascinating!
