Since COVID-19 broke out, we have changed several things about our lifestyle. We are continuously looking for ways to stock up on essential items like food, water, medicine, survival kits, and other supplies. Store shelves are always missing isopropyl alcohol, sanitizers, wipes, and other cleaning materials.

However, the effects of the pandemic aren’t something out of the blue. The panic and uncertainty most people feel are with good reason.

Most of us have never had any experience dealing with situations like Covid-19, let alone plan for when it would happen. Although, there is a group of people who we can learn from – the Preppers.

You know, the people we've seen on TV. People who like to prepare for any catastrophe or disaster that may occur. They’re concerned about wars, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and even a zombie apocalypse!(which, by the way, the CDC has a preparation manual for that as well.)These people are prepared for just about anything and they’ve been preparing for years, and they were right!

You Can't Have Too Much Preparation

When it comes to getting ready for disasters, preppers spare no effort. They always go all out and see that their supply is still sufficient. There are four essentials you'll need to stock up on when preparing:

Food

Food is one of the essential items you need to have for your preparation kit. Not eating for a few days will lead a lack of nutrition. During disasters, you need your mind and body to stay sharp.

Preppers concentrate on the longevity and the nutrients they can get from their food.

The best way to get this is through an emergency or survival food storage company. Stored properly it can last up to 25 years.

Fire

Fire is beneficial for cooking food, fighting off predators, and a source of warmth. You can also use it as a source of light.

It will help if you look for a reliable fire starter that you can easily pack and use. Look for materials that can sustain the fire.

Water

Without a clean source of water, your chances of survival become slim. More than quenching thirst, you can also utilize water for cleaning wounds and cooking.

One of the items you need to have is an excellent portable water filter. No matter where you go, you can always have water available. Water filters do an excellent job of continually providing you with clean water.

Shelter

Shelters are also essential to keep you safe from outside elements, especially the weather. Too much cold, and you get hypothermia. Exposure to too much heat will also cause hyperthermia.

You need to secure a durable item that can shelter you. An excellent example of this is a tent and body bag.

Back to the basics!

Jeff

I learned as a child to be a type of prepper-- at that time, for snowstorms which might keep us home for a few days. Then again, as an adult, for hurricanes (we moved to Florida) which meant days to even weeks (generators are wonderful!)

So we are essentially set for any short-term, but being able to adjust to a new lifestyle, as 2020 seems to be making, is difficult for some people. Our family is prepared, yet it is still challenging at times.

Have a great weekend!
Diane
