Hurry!

These days it seems like everything I do is with "HURRY' energy surrounding it. It feels like EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is on s-l-o-w...m-o-d-e...

I was on my way to meet some people for dinner. The next thing I knew, I found myself sitting behind a line of cars amazed at the fact that no one was driving forward while I was ready to go. One foot itching to hit the gas and the other foot itching to ride past the blocks ahead of me.

There I sat, with my heart and mind racing with my lips racing even faster. I am sure my lips were on some sort of unconscious drug because they kept saying, "Whatinthehellisgoingon? Whyiseveryonesittingaround? Comeon...MOVE...whereamI...theTWILIGHTZONE?"

After offering a few crazy looks at people in the other cars with my lips flapping like it was the LAST time they would be allowed to move ever again... I looked up and made gesture to point at the light to see if I could get answers from someone as to WHY we were all sitting still.

I looked up and suddenly, my mouth FROZE! My eyes got HUGE! As I sat completely still behind the wheel of my car I stared at the reason we were all sitting without an ounce of movement. The light was RED.

I didn't DARE look at the people in the other cars who, I assumed, had taken up the belief that I was full on CRAZY. As soon as the light changed, I hurriedly made a turn and drove out of my way so I would not have to see any of those cars. I was embarrassed about my CRAZED behavior.

As I was driving the long way around, I started to think about how my RUSH is truly self-imposed. Talking to my friends, it seems a lot of us are in a 'self-imposed' hurry. Realizing this, actually made me calmer.

I understand and respect other people's time but if I had had a heart attack or accident because of my self-imposed RUSH... I would have been late anyway. So, what's the rush? Dinner would have still happened but it would have happened WITHOUT me instead of WITH me being a little late. The restaurant wouldn't have shutdown and gone out of business because I was late OR absent. So, life would have carried on.

This observation caused me to make a decision. I have decided it is best for all involved (myself and others on the road with me), that I do my best to leave on time and if I do or do not, I'm still not going to let it ruin our ride.

Popping in some old school music and singing along has proven to be a very calming antidote. And, the plus side is that I show up to my destination with a good atitude.

What do you do to calm your ride?

It's this constant urgency in all things that is so unnecessary, really! We try to do so much in a day its insane. And why are we doing that instead of planning our days properly and making one thing a priority for the day so that there is enough time maybe to touch other things. But if you all over the place you will feel rushed. Like you say everything will still carry on ...the world keeps turning regardless of whether we are on time or not. But the great takeaway here is to start leaving earlier or on time to avoid this stress.
Thanks for this post and have a calm & lovely weekend and week ahead:)

Thank you! I appreciate your response. Had a great weekend!

I find myself doing the exact same thing, Patricia! We are all human after all, and sometimes that is our "Impatient Nature". Thanks for ths important reminder!
