Trust Your Struggle

Have you ever experience where it seems like everything is going wrong and/or not as planned? I've had this experience as well. Actually, I've had this experience several times in my life.

Many times it starts when you get up late or the alarm clock did not sound off to wake you up. At this time you're feeling mentally imbalanced. You get dressed for work and as you walk out the door you scrap the door as you open it and it stains your white dress shirt with a dark smear. At this point, you have a choice.

1. Change the shirt and be late for work

2. Try to remove strain.

3. Keep stain on shirt

Regardless of what action you take. You are currently in the discomfort zone and everything you do will trigger an emotional reaction. Your face expression has changed, heart rate is faster, mind is racing and you're searching for a solution to your situation.

What if...

What if... I just keep the stain on my shirt and report to a professional environment with a stained white shirt. You would have to ask yourself how would my day go if I keep the stain. Would anyone ask me about the stain? Would this effect my professional standings in the business? Would anyone laugh at me?

What if... I try to remove the stain, then report to work in a professional environment. Would anyone ask me about the wet spot on my shirt that still have a partial stain on it? lol. Would people just look at my shirt funny?

What if... I just change the shirt and communicate my tardiness.

Why Trust Your Struggle?

Believe it or not. I have been in all 3 situations in my professional life, for which I've learned many lessons. lol.

I remember going to work with a stained shirt. At the time, I was a mail clerk at a law firm. I didn't realize the ketchup stain was on my shirt when I arrived. And let me tell you with every interaction before anyone said Hi or Good morning to me they all immediately looked directly at my stained shirt. I tried to remove the stain but it made the stain worse and larger in appearance. Many didn't say anything and a few did bring it up in conversation. Some people had a smirk on their face. Overall, I was extremely uncomfortable for the entire day. I wanted to stay in the mail center and hide all day.

I also remember very well, when I took my time and changed a stained shirt. Due to my previous experience, I just wanted to start over and collect my mental balance for the day after fixing my mistake. This day was not like any other day because as I was driving to work I notice that I avoided a major car accident. It was really bad as a multi-car accident. And when I notice the time of the accident it was at the exact time and location I would usually be that the accident happened.

Chills came over me. And I realized that everything happens for a reason and coincidence is just a situation that has happened before. So to say, I had to trust my struggle in this case which saved my life. If, I would have just kept the stain on my shirt it would be strongly possible that I would have been involved in that major accident.

Many times, things happen in your life as signs and road maps but it's up to you to see the signs for what they are. Imagine life without struggle. We wouldn't be able to experience the beautiful magic of surprise or fate if that's what you believe. Knowing how to embrace your struggle is a skill that's only built from within. Mental awareness it key. Learning how to dance in the rain as you clearly understand that the rain will help fertilize the soil to maintain the crops. Your struggle is in place to protect you from turmoil.

We are constantly having to anticipate and adjust to challenges we face. Anticipation requires better preparation. Adept management requires knowledge and experience. Lessons learnt are bolstered by monitoring and evaluation. Building up these capabilities will allow you the best ability to 'dance in the rain'.
