I am wondering if we need to add some kind of disclosure notice/text in each of our posts that contain affiliate links? Isn't there some kind of requirement for this in the US?

Amazon is one affiliate that demands a disclosure statement. I use a widget to put it in my sidebar.

Joe

Thanks, Joe! I added a plugin that automatically puts it at the top of all my posts and I added a widget to the sidebar, and just in case, I added a page to my menu bar.

Looks like you have it handled. Great!

FYI, in your sidebar is not FTC compliant because that info could end up in the footer if someone comes to your site via a mobile device. Per FTC the disclosure is supposed to precede any affiliate links. My organization is actually filing a protest with the FTC concerning the things that Amazon will accept which are not compliant to the rest of the world.

A widget in the sidebar is not FTC compliant. You are putting your merchant at risk if you do that, as the FTC will penalize them and you for doing so. Best to put it at the top. I can provide a link to my YouTube video with an FTC lawyer on this if you wish.

Thank you for coming and adding your experience with this. That's exactly why I was asking the question. And since you mentioned how it would appear on a mobile device, I looked up my site using my phone and it definitely doesn't show it at the top, clearly. So, I will be designing everything so that it shows at the top on mobile devices. Thank you so very much for the clarification on this. Would you mind, please, sharing the link for your Youtube video? I would like to be a bit more educated on this topic. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything properly and in order.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed that practically all of the competition in my niche don't even use a disclosure statement.

Yeah, that's sad. Puts their advertisers at risk. Doesn't say much for the network they are working through either to have that lack o compliance.

There are some plugins such as FMTC affiliate disclosure plugin that will add disclosure to all your posts.. And yes, you have to put it. Especially if you are going to promote some amazon products.

Thank you for the quick response!
Would you know if there is any lessons/classroom teaching that specifically mentions going about doing this and adding the plugin to your site?

I dont know about training available here, but it is very simple with plugin. And I added that to every post, on sidebar i have text widget with amazon affiliate disclosure and in footer menu i have disclosure page.

Teoretically, it should be on every page on which you have affiliate links, and it should appear before affiliate links. I have put it in the beginning of the article..

This is how it looks like on my blog

Thank you! I've just added a plugin that puts info at the very top of all of my posts and thank you for the suggestions on adding to my sidebar and in a footer menu. Great ideas!

Thanks again!

You're welcome ;)

I took a screen shot of it for you. Let me know if you need any help.
