"I'm not a professional writer so don't expect proper grammar and structure but you will see the value in this post."

If you don't choose the right niche, you will fail to make online period!

Choosing a niche is not as easy as some make it out to be. It takes time and sometimes money to find a lucrative niche that will produce any type of profit. It may take send several hours a day, a few days a week to even find a niche that may be profitable. And if you can't put in the time, then you will not make any in affiliate marketing... PERIOD!

This may sound harsh but let's face facts... 98% of the people that try their hand at affiliate marketing or making money online fail. Why? Because they go in with the wrong expectations. Thinking they will start making money immediately or at least within the first few weeks and that is most they fail.

Treating making money online like a game of baseball...

The 4 Bases You Need to Cross to Make Money Online
  1. First base - finding a lucrative and profitable niche
  2. Second base - creating good SEO content and getting it online
  3. Third base - getting POTENTIAL BUYERS, not visitors, to your site
  4. Home base - closing the deal; MAKING THE SALE!

I will go over each 'base' in the following days but now I want to get back to helping you find a profitable niche.

How Do You Choose a Profitable Niche?

Many people say, choose something that you are interested in or have experience because you will be writing content for your niche site so it's easier to write on a topic that you have knowledge of.

I, personally, do not like that strategy. Why? Because, in my opinion, it takes too much time and money, yes money, to generate any kind of decent returns for the time and money you spent.

Let's say you choose the sport of cricket. You love Cricket and have an in-depth knowledge of the game but how would you go about making money from this niche? This is not a sport that has a lot of popularity around the world and equipment and clothing is rather inexpensive.

Now Soccer is a hugely popular sport but with a lot of competition and to me the products you can push is very limited. You couldn't push apparel that is not branded but not many true soccer fans will buy knock-off/fake MLS or other soccer organizations gear. If you did, you could wind up in jail.

How Do I Choose a Lucrative Niche to Pursue?

My favorite three categories for choosing my niches.

  1. Pain and suffering
  2. Embarrassment (visible is the best)
  3. Self-esteem issues

Think about it for a moment, nobody wants to endure none of the three listed about so when they are searching online looking for a cure or remedy for their problem(s). And it's easier to find angles in these niches to compete with the big players.

Also, the search volume is a critical factor in choosing your niche. If nobody is search on Google or any of the other major search engines then you will not make any money.

You don't need a niche that has a huge search volume because that would mean it will be extremely difficult for you to rank on the first or second page of Google or the other search engines... if ever.

I like to choose niches with a search volume between 20 - 250 searches per month. You may not think that's enough monthly search volume but you could literally make your hundreds or even thousands a month depending on the niche you choose.

Side note: With that being said, if you create a site that makes you $500 a month in profit, scale up! Create 5, 10, or 50 sites just like the $500 site you built. The money is in the numbers - you have to have Fibonacci mentality... (I'll talk about that in another post)

This is How I Find a Profitable Niche

First off, I don't use Google trends as much anymore. I know it's free and many people swear by it but I don't think it's necessary. I know another tool that is 1000x times better. Seriously a 1000x times better and just about 99.99% of you reading this post has access to it or can get access.

Can you guess what that tool is? It's your TV!

There are all kinds of TV ads, infomercials and the legal advisory warnings on television 24 hours a day. Just choose one that you are not familiar.

Why find a niche you are not familiar? That way, you won't enter this niche thinking you know something when you may not know anything of value.

Following these steps.

  1. Turn on your TV
  2. Since I have cable, most of you as well, turn on your TV Guide. Flip through the channels until you find something relating to solving a problem. Most will be skin care, joints, weight loss, impotence, etc...
  3. Jot the FULL title in the menu
  4. Go to Google and type it in. (you can use other search engines but Google is the 900lbs Gorilla in the room of search engines)
  5. Look at the results on the first page. See what type of content is at the top? Paid ads, e-commerce site, blog, video or Google business address.
  6. Pay attention 'About' section which shows you have the page results. It's just about the content at the top of the SERP
  7. Now type 'Allintitle:' without the single quotes in front of your search keyword phrase. This will tell you how many pages have those exact words in the title. If less than 20 results come back then you can rank fast.
  8. Note, focusing on your primary keywords in the phrase... the adjective that describes the noun. lol
  9. Also, you will need a chrome plug called: Keyword Everywhere. It displays related keywords from your keyword phrase search earlier. Those additional related keywords can be used for articles or domain names. It's FREE by the way
  10. Just that simple!

I didn't mean this post to get this long but suffering niches makes more money faster and has more visitor buyers.

SECOND PHASE:

Another great keyword phrase:

Keyword phrase: fever and joint pain in child

Volume: 70

Page intitle: allintitle:fever and joint pain in child

Page count: 9

Great post! I will incorporate this method soon!

That is an interesting method, thanks for sharing it! I would still pick a niche that I know about or at least am interested in learning about that is ALSO profitable. It doesn't have to be one or the other in my opinion. I have tons of interests but my niches are specific interests that I determined have a lot of potential as well.

I agree with you. Picking what you are MOST passionate about may not be the best niche just because you love it. It is probably better to start with a niche that has good potential and later on you could create another website about your top passion once you have learned more tips and tricks to get traffic to a site.

Jason,
Ingenious work - thank you for sharing,
Susan
