Can You Make Money with That Niche?
Kyle, thank you for getting me on my soapbox about niche selection. Why Your Niche MATTERS in Affiliate Marketing. I broke with convention and sent that video of yours off to another tab.
I am going to start with a given, Agree or Not, people entering the niche blogging and affiliate marketing arena are lazy!
Before you prove my point and skip reading the rest of this post, just to send flames my way, hear me out. You MIGHT be the exception and belong to the 5% Club.
We all know that 95% of all bloggers FAIL. They quit. Why? Lazy.
When people buy into the Make Money Online (MMO) frenzy, they see "everyone" making $177,000 per year on average. Post a couple of posts, and watch the money roll in. Why doesn't this happen?
Poor Niche Selection
Google is great at pointing out that poor niche selection is the number one killer of bloggers' dreams. If that is the case, why do people make poor niche selections? Repeat it with me. People Are Lazy.
They entered this realm expecting to find money trees growing everywhere. Simply "plant" the seeds of The Most Profitable Niche, sprinkle in a few posts, and your money tree will blossom into the blog.
What Happened to Your Dreams?
You were too lazy to notice. The Health and Beauty Niche that you know nothing about IS The Most Profitable Niche. So you went there. The Health & Beauty posts that AI-generated for you are like dead fish floating in a toxic river. They don't get read, they don't even get ranked!
Why Do People Pick a Niche From a List - Say it with Me - People Are Lazy!Don't Feel Bad It Happens to 95% of the Blogging Population

Back to the training. Remember to
- Research Demand - Is anyone searching for this?
- Identify Monetization Opportunities:
- Look for:
- Products you can promote as an affiliate
- Potential for creating your own digital products (e-books, courses)
- Services you could offer (coaching, consulting)
- Analyze Competition: Some competition is good—it proves there's money to be made. But look for areas where you can offer unique value.
- Consider Longevity: Is this a lasting interest or a passing fad?
- Evergreen niches often provide more stable long-term income.
- Assess Your Passion: Your genuine interest will fuel consistent, high-quality content creation, which is crucial for success.
(That Actually Requires Effort)
My father told me when I was young, "A Lazy Man Has to work twice as hard."
Every time I try to take a shortcut, I hear his voice - Don't Be Lazy Do It Right.
People Are Lazy - Are You?
- Don't Be Lazy in Your Niche Selection: Avoid the temptation of "get rich quick" schemes or copying others' success.
- Leverage Your Unique Experiences: Your job, hobbies, and life experiences are goldmines for niche ideas.
- Think Outside the Box: Remember, competitive napping and roadkill cuisine can be viable niches!
- Evaluate Profit Potential: Do your homework to ensure your niche can be monetized effectively.
- Be Passionate and Persistent: Success comes to those who consistently provide value in their chosen niche.
I have come off of my soapbox.
You're now ahead of 95% of all aspiring bloggers. You're not picking a niche from a list—you're creating a unique space that aligns with your interests and experiences.
This approach may require more initial effort, but it's the "lazy" way to long-term success. Why? Because when you're genuinely interested in your niche, the work doesn't feel like work.
So, what's your unique niche going to be? The world is indeed your oyster—now go find your pearl!

Brilliant…. Mr Don!
For my first website I chose weight loss, because I had experience with being skinny to gaining weight as I aged. What I didn’t realize was the YMYL associated with the health and wellness niche. I do enjoy writing about this subject and I genuinely want to help others with their struggles. I know it can be profitable for sure. It just seems like a crawl to get traffic.
Thanks, Steve,
I have found that the "You Do You" approach is far and away the best way to go.
I am in the process of putting up a piece that may help with boosting your traffic.
It should be posted soon.

I love this piece by Mr Don. Thank you for putting it together and effectively passing on the message
Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy helping people avoid the pitfalls of the masses.
Most people do pick the path of least resistance. Sell Wealthy Affiliate. I went this route. Not because I was "lazy" but because I have a marketing and sales background.
I created a concept and have pushed my unique angle.
But I am also creating 2 other niches to demonstrate that what I am preaching does work.
You do you, and people will find you and follow your advice. When that happens keep doing you and the money will come to you.
Success is measured in the number of people you help, not by the dollars you make. Money is the by product of great help.

Sorry Brad, I didn't realize I missed replying. Obviously I agree with you as I used your words to reply to another commenter.
The path of least resistance is littered with unsuccessful attempts to cash in.
Keep doing You Do You and be a success.

Wish I read this (and listened) when I first started! It's so easy to get caught up in looking for what we think we "should" be doing, when the best way to experience success is to look within. I've made failed attempts at trying to start a blog about topics I thought were a good idea, while overlooking the value of my skills and life experiences. When you take the time to research ideas while honoring what you have to offer, the world is truly your oyster, as you said, and it's a lot more fun!
SharaAnn,
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. You are not the first person to have ditched their first blogging effort in favor of something "more applicable" to you and what you enjoy.
The more people I can get to STOP using the List of 1001 Perfectly Profitable Passive Income Niches, the faster people will see that blogging is a "You Do You" proposition, that begs to answer the question, "If money was no object, what would you rather be doing?"
I have taken the time to follow you and look forward to reading about your success.
