Affiliate Disclosures

Let's start a conversation...

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has strict rules on product endorsements that prevent affiliate marketers from misleading customers. AKA Affiliate Disclosures.

Transparency is key. If your readers are not advised that some of your links are in fact affiliate links, it could land you in trouble with the Affiliate Program you are working with, and even worse the FTC. I do not know about you, but I created my business to make money and not to pay fines to the government. Additionally, I do not want to tarnish my brand with a simple mistake and risk damage to a relationship with a customer.

But what are your methods of disclosure beyond your Affiliate Disclosure page. Do you place a disclaimer directly in your post. Do you have it posted somewhere on your website? Do you write it on the wall near your computer is a brightly colored crayon?

I attempt to disclose links directly in the post. Saying that, I am about the most forgetful person at times. Could be age related or I am simply distracted. Or it could just be me being lazy when writing. Either way, I include a disclosure and I attempt to do so directly in my articles.

Everyone is aware that these days in which we are currently living in, AI has became a thing on the web. The tools and insight it can deliver to you is amazing for research and assistance. I just recently discovered Claude. After exploring and toying with Claude I started to experiment.

I asked Claude to compose a code for me so I did not forget to include my affiliate disclosure in my articles. Claude suggested placing a code directly in the Footer of my page. I am in no way a programmer or coder but I decided to at least see what it would do if I added it. So I did, and this is what Claude gave me when I asked for "Can you Create a code that applies my affiliate disclosure to my website"

<div class="affiliate-disclosure">
<p><strong>Affiliate Disclosure:</strong> Some of the links on this website are affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I may earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase. Please note that I only recommend products or services that I personally use and believe will be beneficial for my readers.</p>
</div>

Above is what I spit out at me. Below is the Result.

I think it looks kinda nifty myself

My question to you is, Beyond my Affiliate Disclosure Page, and posting (Sometimes) within my articles when I remember to do so, Is this a good method and would you employ it?

Thanks For Reading my babble..

Sounds like a sound method to me Michael and go that extra step on each page if you wish to!

For me, just a single, simple affiliate disclosure in my footer menu does the trick! :-)

I have found when you place it directly in the footer it appears on all pages and post and since it is at the bottom is does not appear tacky if you will.

That's the way to do it my friend!

Michael
Thanks for the info and example. Will use it myself. Also, just started using Claude and love it.
Best Wishes
Dan

I am still exploring it's abilities. For me, it is almost like when the smartphones arrived, I refused to give up my flip phone! New tech. lol

Michael

I did exactly the same thing with my flip phone. Glad I changed, though. :)

I still miss it!
