What Happens When You Thank ChatGPT 5.2, and Does it Deliver?!
Today I got an AI to make some improvements to a very old image I had and I was so impressed I did something unusual - I said 'thanks that was very good' to a 'thing' which is apparently an LLM Chatbot... and naively discovered it was more than prepared for being thanked!
I’m glad you like it — thank you! 😊
It not only interacted with me with appropriate cute smiley faces as any human online, it rewarded me with advanced suggestions on my original idea, like I'd prompt engineered them...
.... except of course I hadn't even thought of these ideas. And so the interaction began, it giving me ideas, me tailoring them to what I wanted, and it giving me specific technical advice on what I'd need to do to use them in various ways... a good example of AI at its best...till I ran out of free credit LOL as I was on the free version and it told me to log in 24 hours later to see the super duper new creation that was half-baked dangling in front of me!
Fine. It was an experiment, and yielded unexpected positives. I then hopped over to the WA Image Studio where I have over 60K free credits monthly and can do anything I like.
This was what it suggested when I just said thank you:
If you’d like, I can help you take it a step further, for example:
- Refine it (more minimal, more bold, different font feel)
- Create alternate versions (horizontal, square, favicon)
- Adjust colors for light/dark backgrounds
- Prepare web-ready assets (PNG, SVG style guidance)
- Add a brand style mini-guide (fonts, colors, spacing)
Just tell me how you plan to use it (website header, social media, print, etc.), and I’ll tailor it perfectly for that purpose.
However, something I noticed before with its suggestions is it often doesn't deliver!! It actually gave me the same image it had just done! So I lost the 'politeness' and just commanded it to do something else then it sort of 'woke up' and behaved again. And it will take 24 hours to see if it delivers on that, though I saved the whole conversation just in case I have to re-enter it as I skipped the invitation to get it to remember starting off [!] I had not logged in as last time I logged in I got a bot version that had a much lower 'IQ'!!
I just viewed Kyle's training on Prompt Engineering here in WA, even though it has an older version of ChatGPT it is an excellent entry point for anyone new to the world of AI.

I think ChatGPT is a great tool but I have found in some cases it is really accurate for what I ask and in other cases it goes AWOL and gives me something I didn't mention. This is not always a bad thing either as it gives you other things to think about but it can distract from the original prompt and ideas you have.
Yes, you nailed it - bit all over the place for better or worse, warnings come with it to say 'AI may make mistakes' too but as with google search results who is ever going to double check these days! If fb encourages 'doom scrolling' this seems like doom scrolling on steroids at times!
Totally agree. It’s chaos with a disclaimer slapped on 😅
The “AI may be wrong” warning feels a bit like small print no one actually reads.
Doom scrolling on steroids is painfully accurate.
Peter
I think we will all be quoting you on that 'chaos with a disclaimer slapped on', '...the small print no one reads'! NAILED IT again!
Wow, what a fun experience! 😄 I love how you explored the “politeness” side of AI and ended up with unexpected ideas and suggestions — that’s exactly why experimenting with AI can be so rewarding.
It’s also a great reminder that even free versions can spark creativity, but having tools like WA Image Studio with plenty of credits really lets you run with ideas fully. I definitely need to dive into Kyle’s prompt engineering training myself — sounds like a perfect way to get more out of AI without getting stuck.
I was totally new to AI and found Kyle's 'prompt engineering' course covered the gamut of AI and its potential as well as talking about AI, amazingly fast! I'm not sure if the 'promts' need to be staged the same now with later versions, but time will tell! 5.2 version just ran with 'thanks'! And took something I liked further - quite a rabbit hole I'd say for doom scrollers all the same, limited credit on chatGPT may have been useful!
Same here! I was totally new to AI, and Kyle’s prompt engineering course was a great foundation. Even though it’s based on an older version, the principles still apply. Newer versions feel much more conversational — 5.2 taking off after a simple “thanks” definitely proves that 😄 Probably a good thing the free credits run out!
👍
Yes... I was so frustrated with the waiting, that I upgraded (and never regretted) ...
And yes, "thank you" is part of the conversation too.
✨
I keep being offered a free month of upgrade - and also with Canva. I will take them up on it when I have a lot of time to use them or really need them.
interesting you like chosing Premium version...has to be good to be shelling out given the resources we have here though I see Kyle loves it too.
wow that is interesting to know and I will look out for that! I have often taken the Canva free upgrade, seems to come up quite a bit with them...
... is ChatGPT Premium the same as the free version just without the credit limit now? oh, I found it - yup they are all 5.2 now...
Not exactly.
Both free and Premium users are indeed on the same core model family now (yes : 5.2), so the baseline intelligence is aligned.
The difference isn’t “smarter vs dumber”. It’s access and comfort:
• Free >>> tighter usage limits, fewer advanced tools, more “come back later” moments.
• Premium >>> higher or no caps, priority access, advanced tools/features, smoother long sessions.
So you can think of it like this:
Same engine, different fuel tank and dashboard.
If you’re just popping in occasionally, free is fine.
If you work with it daily, think deeply, or build things with it ... Premium removes friction rather than changing the brain.
Your follow-up “oh, found it ... yup, all 5.2 now” is spot on.
That’s the key nuance most people miss.

I was interested specifically in the 5.2 aspect as in the past chatGPT free vs premium were different models [as in Kyle's training 2 years back
For sure there's a bunch of extra tools and features though, I found the openAI website and there's even things like video, custom gpts - have you got your own custom one?!
But I noticed already a difference in 'IQ' between trial and free logged in !!!!
Good catch! And you’re remembering that correctly.
Back in Kyle’s training days (2+ years ago), free vs paid really did mean different models. That changed over time. Today, the core model family is aligned (5.2) for everyone, which is why you’ll see that reflected now.
Where things still differ (and this is probably what you’re feeling) is how the model is allowed to behave depending on context:
* Logged-in vs not logged-in
* Trial vs free account
* Usage pressure / system load
* Access to tools, memory, and longer reasoning space
So it’s not that the “brain” is different.
It’s more like: the same brain, but with tighter guardrails and less room to stretch.
And yes 😄 the OpenAI site makes it clear now: video, custom GPTs, tools, memory, etc. Those absolutely change the experience, even if the underlying model label is the same.
So your observation about a perceived IQ difference isn’t imaginary. It’s just policy, context, and breathing room, not a different model tier anymore.
That’s a really sharp catch, by the way.

I was one who took like forever to try chatGPT, tried it in Nov and I was so impressed I keep wondering why I never even wanted to find out.
I live in a small almost isolated village high up in the swiss mountains, I asked GPT to tell me what to do in my area when visiting, I was blown away, even places that I always thought only locals know was suggested. With which buses to take and all that.
I now have to say I love chatGPT
Very interesting how it knew your village so well. I'm just beginning to dabble with gpt and see there's already 50 million folks using it... !
