Just an IDEA....What do you think?
I was doing some research the other day, going through a bunch of other people's Blogs, when I came upon this IDEA. I have not seen it used anywhere, and don't know if there is a reason for it or not. I am interested in hearing your comments on what you think of this IDEA, and if it has any benefit with Google, or just visitors to the site. So here goes:
Every Blog I go to is a rolling Blog. Meaning the most resent blog is on top of all of the others. Even if the Blogger has narrowed his niches down, the blog still covers a number of micro niches with in the main niches.
The indexing is also the same, you can scroll down and see what has been written. Most of the time on the right side of the page you will find an index by the month, or past years, if the blog is old enough.
My niche is very wide, and has a lot of sub- niches. The niche is Organic Gardening, but that includes, Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers, Lawns, and a number of others.
OK, Bob so what is your IDEA, already!!! Well here it is, no more waiting.
What I am thinking about is this, when someone clicks on the Blog tab in the navigation on my site, it will have sub- niches listed. This way if the visitor is interested in reading about vegetables, they click on that sub-page, and it brings up a page listing all of the posts titles I have written on that subject, and hyperlinked to that post.
I know this would create extra work for me, but it would make it much easier for the visitor to find the information that they are looking for. It would also make their experience on the site more enjoyable, and maybe stay on the site longer, which I know would help in the ranking.
I would be very grateful for any feedback on this, or any other IDEAS that would also help with using this IDEA to boost Google ranking.
Thanks for your time,
Bob

Hey Bob, I began working on this the other day, and have certainly had a few plugin trial and errors in order to get a good grip on how to do this.
I think you'll appreciate the potential.
here is the website where I am working on developing this organizing theme.
The site I just mentioned
The theme is called 'Spun'
You can see that I've begun linking the first ten 'post pictures' to category entries instead of to posts.
Very tricky at first, but I've got it down to a one-two process, using two permalink plugins which sort of play off each other.
Numbers 11 through 3 are unassigned, but you can see numbers 21 through 12 are assigned to categories. Most of it is for fun and learning right now, but there is also the option you can see in the colored post picture - the flower at the bottom-right of the screen.
When you click on it, not only does it lead to a category, but instead of other numbers being there, well...you'll see.
I'm still working on getting music to play continuously on the site without it needing to start over every time someone selects a new page.
If you like it, I can take you through the steps of how to set up the posts to link in such a way as you see for the 'spun' theme, and it will work for other themes too, except it's not as pretty in my opinion.
I'm done tweaking it for the night. I hope you take a chance to look at it before I begin messing around again tomorrow.
I think its a good idea. Its kinda what Ive been wanting to do but still need to figure what niche to choose, but my idea was a blog maybe 3x a week or more or less, and have a different sub-topic that is still covered under my niche. But it would allow people to get answers to many health issues but it would be constanly changing at the same time. But, yes I do like your idea and cant wait till you put it to use
My thought is, even if it does not help with Google, it will make it easier for my vistors. And if it is easier on them to find what they are looking for, they will stay longer, and visit more pages, and that will rank with Google.
Thanks for your reply

Here is my opinion Bob... Your idea is excellent! Any website should be about user experience... if it's not easy to navigate, and does not have the info that brought them to the site to begin with... they are going to leave... you have only about 5-8 seconds to convince them to stay... DO NOT focus the content of your site for what you think Google wants... What Google wants is to connect searchers with the best match for the information they are searching(user experience). If visitors go to your site and stay less than 5 seconds (Google can infer it was not a good match for the particular keyword or phrase used) ... Kyle wrote about this recently... check the article.
My thought is, it is a win both for Google, and it will make it easier for my vistors. And if it is easier on them to find what they are looking for, they will stay longer, and visit more pages, and that WILL rank with Google.

I think you have a good idea. Anything to make a visitor's experience more enjoyable is important. There are a number of ways to do it in WordPress
Hey Bob.
I can think of numerous ways of managing this. However, I think the simplest and fastest way would be to just add "categories" to your posts. You can then create sub-categories (Apples) by choosing a Parent Category (Fruit). http://d.pr/i/BL9r You can further refine by using Tags.
You can display these categories in multiple ways, for example, by dragging a "Category" widget to your sitebar, etc.
Rich.
Thanks Rich, That is what I had in mind, but will doing this help with Google ranking in anyway?
It won't add or detract from a search engine ranking. Google places the most emphasis on content not organisation. Rich.
On the website I am going to set it up like you would other pages. On my site, I have a tab in the navigation bar for good bugs, then I will have sub-pages for each bug, where I go into more detail about the benefits of that bug. The site is still under costruction, but you cas see what I have so far at: www Super Organic Garden. This is my first site, so it is going very slow. Thanks for your comment.
Bob
I can see that helping if you have a huge number of posts like some of the members. For the rest of us, a quick scan over the titles normally shows whether or not they might be of interest. I'm not really up on the physical working of the blog posts so I don't know if you can put them into sub-catagories. Can you?

oh and...if you pause a few moments on any page, the music will start up.
