Goals and Life

I have noticed that people are unsure of how to respond to the question; "What are your goals?". It seems as though you have somehow asked them about something that they haven't a clue about. You might as well have asked them how to build a rocket.

So many people fail to realize that goals are an essential part of life and are not complicated at all! Often, they set goals without realizing they are doing so. What am I going to do today? Right there, you are about to set a goal! I need to mow the yard or I need to buy groceries. Congratulations you now have a goal.

I will give an example to show how goals are a natural process and that we set goals on a daily basis. Let's say you are planning to have a barbecue, OK here is a GOAL. What steps will you need to take to make this happen?

Who will be there?

What will we be having to eat?

When will it take place?

Where will it take place?

Now it is time to set "sub" goals;

Who; 1. make a guest list. 2. contact the guests.......etc.

What; 1. make a menu. 2. trip to grocery store.......etc.

When; 1. set a date. 2. set a time.......etc.

Where; 1. my house. 2. my back yard.......etc.

Setting goals is a normal process and something we do on a daily basis! Many people do not even realize that they are setting goals. I used the barbecue analogy because it is easily relate able to many people. This same process works for your personal life or your business. The goal setting process can just as easily be applied to your business!

Goal:

I want to help X amount of people with my biz. OK, who? what type of people? when? where?

I want to make X amount of money with my biz. OK, who? what ? when? where?

etc.....

Each goal should have sub goals that will allow you to achieve your main goal.

Setting Goals:

When you start or started your business you should have set some goals. Don't stop there! Set some daily goals, set some weekly goals, set some monthly goals, and set some yearly goals. You should also have some long term goals. Five years, Ten years, etc.... You should also review your goals daily. Goal review helps you to stay focused and helps drive you to accomplish the tasks need to see your goals achieved.

Goals and Life go hand in hand.

Yes! I have prepared similar post on the topic but I'm not allowed to post it as I am not yet a Premium member.
Goals are important!
Sometimes I get the impression people fear goals as if they are not going to succeed. As if success is not meant for them. So they say what's their wish instead setting a goal!
If it is the case, than set a lower goal, fewer goals! That means working at your own pace!
It might be also because people identify with others and compete! Be aware, because your competences are not as other person's. That does not mean you will not get there, you will, but you need more time. Moderate your goals!
This is the reason behind setting non-financial goals! What are your wants for a happy (professional) life!
Montie, sorry per invading your profile, gonna go now and work before becoming overly philosophical!
That is my additional goal!
A great post!
Best wishes and...

I like the breakdown of the goal setting process! Thanks for sharing

Well put. If we don't recognize our goals we can't strive to reach them. My motto: aim high and when you get there set some new goals. ~Marion
