The One Thing You Can Control In 2023
Hello WA Community and Friends...I hope today's blog post finds you well and productive!
To start the new year, I wanted to give you the most important message I could (okay, okay, I know I'm a little late starting the new year).
However, when you get down to it, the number one thing I want you to remember to start 2023 is always to be ready.
We've gone through a lot in 2022, more than would fill several blogs.
We don't know what's in store for us in the new year, but there's no need to be afraid and trapped by the macro view.
You only need one break, one opportunity.
Make sure you're ready for it!
The economic uncertainty around us is a breeding ground of opportunity. In the tech world, many layoffs will prompt the next wave of innovation and new startups.
For established companies in any industry, when things go badly, boards look to change the CEO, which creates a climate of change and opportunities.
Those who are ready will find roads open and bridges to new places they hadn't even realized were possibilities – all because they were prepared when the opportunity presented itself.
Throughout my 35+ years working in corporate America, I have heard from executives and colleagues who shared stories about pouncing on an opportunity.
The common thread has always been that they were ready.
They never told themselves, "Now's not a good time," or "I need to update my resume first."
They already had their mind open and ready to act – a valuable lesson we all here in WA can learn from.
They also knew how to talk about their value, not what they did in the past, but their value for the future.
The one thing you can control in 2023 is your Value Story, and you can use that to change what's around you into your Next Great Next.

Thank you Mike for your words of wisdom, the past is over and this year is going to be something to me that is going to help anyone and everyone I can. With a wide open mind and getting rid of selfishness and self centeredness I am running away from the bad and seek the goodness. I am going to be happy for the rest of my life.

We’re in for crazy times my friend. In todays morning news, Microsoft announced that they are laying off 10,000 (5% of their workforce) — we always need to be ready for our next move (whether in business or employed).

Boy, is that ever true! Being always ready for the next challenge takes an exceptional person. I think if we do our best to be ready, we can be forgiven a few errors in timing along the way. We can but try to be ready no matter what comes our way.
Yes, and I think that is the key! Being ready, is important because it puts you in position to take action, while not being open and/or ready can take you out of the game — and that is when you can miss opportunities.
