1. If I summarize a video and post it I am assuming this is 'ethical' as long as I attribute the original (or post the link to the original too). Correct?
2. What is the impact on search engines if I am posting a summary & referring back to the originator. Is that more positive (credibility of multiple sources) or less positive (lack of original content)?

Not sure exactly what you mean but I do not recommend you just do a summary of someone else's video and then publish the summary just like that even if you refer back to it.
It will not really have any benefits, in my experience.
Personally, I use it for research and then for my own videos to sometimes help with making social posts faster, But you always have to be critical and adjust.

In general it is a good idea reference sources and it can also be beneficial for SEO. But it all depends how you use the info and how you do it.
