Crest of The Digital Wave

I love this photo, it reminds me of a Perth Icon, a boat shed! Mmmm ... some Icon, I hear you murmur! Imagine this little boardwalk with a little blue house at the end of it, blue and white, if my memory serves. Well lots of West Aussies ( and tourists as well!), have their wedding photos taken there and there is also a statue of a swimmer poised to dive into the waters, well someone, or many, take to dressing this statue in various different outfits, done surreptitiously at sometime, possibly night? Not an easy task either! Who knows, but it always gets a laugh and I hope it never stops!

So my title and yes a few waves in my choice of picture, should be more I guess, considering the impact of the ' crest of digital wave'.

This digital wave started really in the nineties am I right? and impacted on all of us, if even in the smallest way. Way back then I worked in a bank, so a white collar worker! Yes perceived as such, way back then.

I worked in a bank after leaving school and became a queen of the ledger machine! Just one step below the most fabulous of jobs, a teller!!! (Well it was the position to strive for!!)

We saw the introduction of the automatic telling machines, spitting out the customer's money, depositing their money, etc. etc.etc. and yes we all felt threatened, we worried about closure of branches, retrenchment and so on and on.

And nothing has changed has it?

Looking back it was such a hugh thing to see a machine stuck in the window of a our bank branch, seeming to us, to be taking away our jobs, while we sat inside at our stations, waiting... of course at the end of the day, we did get to count the money and cheques etc..... Until that also was taken away from the branch.

So today, we still hear about the 'crest of the digital wave'.

It's a wave that has never beached. ( and I shall say never will!.)

It continues to take jobs from those who deal with information, data, analyalitics. I have heard the term ' algorithmed' ; what can be done by the human brain has been overtaken by a computer. Mmmm.. so we are left with perhaps a part time/casual work opportunity.

In Australia, we listen to the news to find a bank is chopping 6000 jobs and a telecommunications and technology company, 8000 jobs.

So where am I going? Well I know this is why I am here, to learn and grow another 'job!' But the word 'job', doesn't sit well with me here.

To me this is a opportunity to reach and grow within an amazing Community, that actually has the ability to make me feel connected and that my llife has such potential.

So many more can follow us, utilising and empowering their own versions of their; 'the digital wave.'

Through Wealthy Affiliates, it can become a different scenario of what can be!

Do you know the best thing and I hope you don't mind, but I just like to be able to share my thoughts with you, every now and again.

I would remain on my job as a teller until my sites are really earning the half of what I earn from the bank, and when I see that it's sustainable I will resign from my job and continue on my business.

Thanks accad for your thoughts.
I left the banking industry and went into Aged Care, now that is a job that will never be replaced by the digital age.
Although who knows, robots that look and act like humans!
Could they replace the compassion and empathy and care, we give everyday??!!
Mmm...

You are right Michele, although robots can do what humans can do they have no feelings and they will do the job without feelings.

Nothing can supplant human. We value life. Continue on your caregiving and your business.

Hi Michele,
I can really relate to your story being a banker myself (and still I am - it's no longer a job people want to have these days).

Digital wave is something to be here and future. It's unstoppable. Sadly as you pointed out, because of this advancement, there are people who has no choice but to choose a separation scheme or even worse to leave the job. Now you find avenue where you can start your own BUSINESS (not job), this is something, hopefully more fun than a banker.

All the best to you.

:)
