How To Build A Willing Audience Who Can't Wait To Buy From You

Today, in this post, I am going to share with you the one and ONLY method I have found that works to get your audience not only to think you're wonderful but to have them coming back to you, with credit cards in hand, time and time again.

I can't stress enough the importance of the email list. Despite the surgence of social media, snapchat and all those other delightful platforms we are slaves to, email is still king and will continue to be.

But how come? I hear you ask? How many of use actually read our emails? Not many of us? No. In fact, if I look at my inbox right now, there are around 1700 unread emails from people who are trying to sell me something right now, and you know what? I'm not interested.

So what the heck is email still the only place to truly make a sale from one customer, not just once but twice or more, so why do we roll our eyes at tonnes of emails landing in our laps every day?

None of them are truly ringing our bells. They're simply not doing it for us. We're not interested in what they are selling because they have failed to grasp our attention and I will tell you why.

What they were offering to us for 'bait' when we handed over our email address was a bit 'so so.' It wasn't an eye opener, and it certainly didn't change our lives. We hang on to that first impression so much so, that we probably won't even bother opening an email from them at all, until eventually we get around to hitting that 'unsubscribe' button.

We did hand over our emails but let me ask you this? Is it better to have 30 email addresses on your list who are keen to buy and hang on your every word OR 200 email addresses of people who might be mildly interested but not willing to buy?

I know what I would prefer to have.

Where email marketers often go wrong:

The problems I see are these:

  • They are not homing in on a particular problem. Our itch just ain't being scratched.
  • They are not giving us anything we haven't heard before.
  • We don't think we're being listened to. They are casting the net too wide focusing on getting the emails rather than actually helping us.

We, as consumers, can spot this a mile away. So why do they still do it?

Because they thinbk that if you throw the same method at the wall hard enough, it is eventually going to stick. No. But this is where we can learn from them as affiliate marketers:

We have all this study material hitting our inboxes just waiting for us to comb through with objectional minds and eyes and uncover the ideas of how we could do it better than them.

What you can do to improve your email mastery:

So, this week, if you fancy doing some homework and mastering the ability to market through emails easily, skim through your inbox or even your trash bin and cast a critical eye over some of the junk you're getting and bear in mind your reponses to the following:

  • Where is the email gong wrong?
  • Why, as a consumer, aren't you interested?
  • What vital bits of information are they leaving out?
  • Are they 'talking' to you as if they know you?
  • What can be improved?
  • If you were sending that email, what would you say?

Happy learning everyone and a prosperous week to you all.

Great thinking..thank you!

Let's start the debate! Do you use an email list to market to? If so, what tactics do you use? What has worked for you and what hasn't?

Hi Michelle.
I can't agree with your more. I too have hundreds of unread emails too.

You know what I hate? It's when I sign up to a Email List and the email I get come with a name I don't recognize.

When I sign up to Content Marketing Institute email list I expect emails from Content Marketing Institute. Not Brian@Content Marketing Institute.

Sorry Brian, I have no idea who you are. And you are not welcome in my inbox.

Looking at my in box, scanning the Subject Lines, I see over and over again ... Last Chance! ... Closing Tonight ... Latest Research ... Proven Method ... Coming Soon.

You know what's missing, to me?
They are all screaming "at" me. For my attention.

As if I am a gullible tourist walking down a shady side street with money falling out of my pockets.

None of those email bother just talking "to" me.

It you have hundreds of emails in your inbox too scan the Subject Lines.

Tell me you don't get the same feeling. You feel as though you need a shower after reading those Subject Lines.

Am I right?
Or is it just me?
