Working On Multiple Websites Versus Focusing On Just One.

I have been developing websites now on Wealthy Affiliate for nearly 16 months and like many of you I have a number of projects at different stage of development. But over the last 3 weeks I have been faced with other outside projects and also a need to focus my work a bit more.

The PPC campaigns that I was working on were across numerous sites, and I decided that if I am to really master this and use it to my best advantage I needed to focus on just one site and really concentrate on working that.

So for the last week I have done just that, and I've learnt a lot. Both about my site and which pages convert to sales, but also which posts lead to more engagement and lower bounce rates.

I've also learnt more about the needs of my audience and I have been able to better track their route around my site - because now I have the numbers of people visiting to give me the data I really needed.

The other side effects of increased traffic are that I have increased my subscriber list, have got sales (maybe not enough yet to cover the PPC costs but getting there!) and I have gained a lot more understanding of targeting posts at particular stages in the buying cycle.

I'm keeping it small still at the moment, but hopefully the lessons learnt here I can take back to my other sites and in time expand their traffic in the same way. I had lost a bit of enthusiasm as the website seemed stuck for a while there, but I'm really glad I took the next stage of Bootcamp and have stuck with this because It does seem to be coming together now.

Sounds like a good tactic and that it has paid off for you. I think it's really hard to focus properly on more than one site - I haven't discovered how to do that yet!

I agree Erica and I know I then feel obligated to spread myself across all of them (thinly). I'll just have to take a chance on this more ruthless approach :)

I agree with the philosophy of staying focused on one thing until you get good at it so you don't spread yourself too thin

Thanks although it is easier said than done at times!

I wish I could do this too. I have too many web sites to focus on and I have been taking an SEO Certificate course so I have too many things going on and it has been impossible to focus on anything long enough to really make a difference in it. That takes a lot of self discipline which I must be lacking. So you just set aside other websites and didn't do anything on them ? How long do you think you need to just focus on the one site? I keep trying to prioritize them but that doesn't work I would like to be able to work on one for a certain amount of time then go onto the next, etc. That doesn't happen either. I've got to do something because what I'm doing now isn't working.
Thank you for your post it is inspriring since you have been able to make that one site start doing a lot better.

Hi Barbara I know your pain, and it's only because I am working away from my computer so much these days that necessity has taken over. (That and the fact that PPC costs so that's a great motivator to focus as well!).

My other sites have sufficient content that I'm going to leave them for a couple of months and hopefully get them back up for Christmas!!

It sounds like your sites are all doing pretty well now that you are focusing on this other one which I guess wasn't doing too well. How did you ever manage to get them all completed and with content all at the same time? I hope I can get mine all up and running. It sounds like yours are all pretty good now, that's great!
Barbara

It was little and often, my first site is 18 months old but only has 57 posts and the newer site has 20 posts so progress was very slow. The main site was actually doing better than the others which was why I decided to push it even further and let the others sit on the sidelines for a while.

The problem with working on many sites is I don't think you see the progress as quick, but I know others do do it. Having said that it can be easier writing about different topics rather than always focusing on the same theme.

I agree with you about the different topics of writing also I'm not good at writing it's a struggle for me but i have to figure out something that works because whatever I'm doing or not doing now isn't working. Also if one of your sites is doing better than the others that would make the choice easier too.

Hi Marie, I think you have raised a very valid point it is much better to focus on one main project, the skill set we learn can then be duplicated once we have created that formula that works for us.I have learned that one the hard way. Best wishes moving forward with your PPC campaigns please keep us up to date.

Hi Alexander thanks and I agree sometimes it is hard to stop work on sites because they are all like little babies!! But hopefully the skills will all be put to good use eventually and make up for lost time.

You're doing so well, congrats :)

Thanks Jude - it is slow though and I know there are plenty of people ahead of me at this stage but hopefully we are all on a journey going somewhere!

Happy for your success. Is there anything from your findings that you would suggest to the community for our websites?

I think focus on content production first, it definitely helps having content to play around with whether using SEO, social media marketing or PPC. This site I'm using has over 100 posts all geared for SEO, which Google Adwords really likes as well.

Thank you very much for your insight.

Nice work dear. thanks,

Thanks.

It looks like the focus is bringing results. So keep pushing. I am sure you can eventually apply it to your other sites.

Thanks, and yes although amazon will probably have thrown me out by then (again!). I should have probably focused more when I had more time as well :(

why would Amazon throw you out?

Because the main PPC site doesn't have any Amazon links it's only one of the other newer sites that I have used that for, and now I have stopped working on it it will probably not get any sales!

Well they haven't thrown me out yet and I have never made a sale. I guess I'm under the radar.

Hopefully I can stay there too!

Oh Amazon. Facing same fate, no sales yet.

I think it is more productive in terms of positioning you keep your focus on one website. The best of luck with PPC campaigns.

Yes it's interesting to play around with different sites but each one is a business in its own right I suppose, and at some point they need to move to another level. Thanks for the support, Marie

Multiple sites didn't work for me so I just work on one. I kind of wish I knew how to delete the others here in WA, but it's low on my list. Good luck with PPC!

I still throw the odd bit of content on the others and monitor for comments, hopefully I'll pick them up again!!
