How to Organize your Website Menu
How to organize your Website Menu
Lol, I don't really have much of an authority to be speaking about this but I want to tell other noobs what worked for me.
... So, I hope this doesn't sound pretentious.
Ask yourself the right questions.
You can probably come up with more questions than I, but this is what I ask myself:
"How can I make this easier for someone who's just looking/browsing?"
"How would I want this website's menu to be setup if I were the visitor?"
Do you ever try navigating a website but get frustrated with the way it's setup? Do say to yourself:
"It would've been much easier if they moved this there, and that over here..."
Get back into that mindset! Use it to fuel your Menu organization. Let's be honest here, we don't always enjoy putting the Menu together, do we?
I thought it was fun the first time, but the other times are a bit arduous, and yet, very rewarding. But it's not always so great.
Whenever I realize I made a mistake or need to reorganize the WHOLE MENU (yes, it's happened before), the internal frustration inside me rages silently. I know I'm not alone.
Remember "I Robot"?
"I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right questions."
That's your brain talking. All we have to do is ask the right questions:
(You) "How would I want this website's menu to be setup if I were the visitor?"
(Your brain) "Now that, is the right question."
Much love,
Jess

Great post, Jess. I have been thinking about rearranging my menu, but am afraid I'll mess something up, so I haven't tackled it yet. Maybe your post will give me the confidence to work on it. Carol
Carol, I am in the process of doing just this and will be revisiting the training to make sure nothing goes wrong
Carol, I have just reorganized my menu and will send you a PM with the link, it was so easy to do.
Thanks, Dave. Appreciate it. Probably won't bother with it tonight because I'm too tires. Overdid it a bit yesterday with all the painting and the GDPR! Carol
