How To Increase Confidence In The online Business World
Do you find that learning new technological skills can stop you in your tracks? That you tend to procrastinate as a result?
If so you're not alone. I must admit I'm a bit of a techy phobic and I think if I'm honest that has held me back with my other business. I've learned little bits and bobs over the years and have discovered that the only thing that was preventing me from taking my other business to the next level was delving more into the world of online marketing. I discovered that it doesn't matter how great your product or service is if your not prepared to get out and learn how to market it. It's just going to remain collecting cobwebs. I think WA came at the right time and the fact that everything you need to know is contained within this fantastic platform is a bonus.
I have found the step by step videos of how to build your own website very comprehensive and easy to understand. I was breezing along until I came to the part where I had to point my domain name to the name servers. I nearly went back to my old ways and retreated however I'm so happy I persisted as I finally did it and it has increased my confidence enormously. I figured if I could do that I can do anything. I've since managed to choose my website, SEO it and create three pages. I love progress which I probably wouldn't of made without the resources and the great community in WA. I've ticked another one of my successes off my to-do list. What's my next step? I think it is probably getting to grip with keywords and writing some content for my new site.
How do you build up confidence?
- Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves that we weren't born learning how to say our name but with practice, persistence and repetition we eventually master our language. There is not that many newborn babies that I know of who are born writing, know their way around a cooker or even know how to drive a car. I truly believe that we can learn anything as long as we are interested in what we are doing and keep practicing. Practice certainly makes perfect and is a sure way to increase your confidence levels.
- I find that keeping a to-list is not only great for increasing momentum but is a great way to increase your confidence. At a quick glance you can see just how far you've come.
- My advice to any newbies out there who may be feeling a little overwhelmed and lacking in confidence is work through the course, take it step by step, keep asking for help and realize that Rome wasn't built in a day. Most importantly be sure to make a note of your progress and congratulate yourself on how far you have come. I'm just about to reward myself with a little trinket that I've had my eye on for a while. I find it is good to reward yourself along the way as it increases your momentum.

Yes focusing on people's successes more often than failures at W.A. has helped tremendously. Its funny though, as you don't see too many people complaining over failure, as a result of having such a wonderful community to always help you whenever in need!! :)

Great post Melanie. I have tech phobia, too. i've built my website but am still uncomfortable with it. Trying to write everyday but it's hard to find intelligent things to ssay that often, especially when i'm also trying to do my artwork. You keep up the good work. You're awesome.
Hi Davida. Congrats on your website. I think all websites are a work in progress. There is always room for improvement as they say and most business sites are works in progress. Maybe use the alphabet technique to help you help you come up with some ideas for your blogs. Thank you! That's lovely of you to say.
Step by step is best, in my estimation. My own confidence increases dramatically every time I remember how to do something without having an old lady brain fart and having to go back and look it up. :)
