Email Marketing - Your thoughts please

Hi all it's been a while since I wrote a blog so I thought it was about time I did so and what better time to do it now, when I am considering the next step for my website. I am considering setting up a subscription form to build an email list and using an incentive to do so.

I briefly chatted to Kyle about it and he said I wouldn't need to start thinking about it until I hit about 100 organic visitors daily but I my thoughts on email marketing is that it will generate return traffic regardless and therefore build site trust in the eyes of google so I am looking at getting the wheels rolling on it at least. I have a few questions for everyone and will order them and number them to make life easier.

  1. I am a gaming product niche so I am considering writing a small PDF as a freebie/incentive discussing proven set ups to help people set up a gaming room or gaming area, catering for maximum performance as well as considering portability or space available and recommending certain product types for certain situations. As well as that I was considering a monthly newsletter. Some feedback on this idea would be appreciated.
  2. What programs does everyone use as a list builder and auto responder? I have heard of mailchimp and listwire however I am a tad skeptical of listwire. Kyle has recommended Aweber and Getresponse but I am completely new to all this, I am also not making money yet so would prefer a free one if possible to get the features that would be required.
  3. Is any time a bad time to set up a subscription form? I know my traffic isn't the best but I figure if I am capturing at least a few people every so often its gotta be better than nothing right?

From what I have read so far, email marketing seems to be something that I really need to master and I know from being on the consumer end that it does work as I subscribe to local electronic stores and buy from them from time to time.

My biggest difficulty I suppose is learning new things. Every time I feel I need to further myself I go back to writing content and posting a new page because its easier (lol) but I know as much as more content is great, I need to push forward and learn other aspects to help my website.

Thanks everyone in advance, some feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi matt,How are you? hope I am not too late, here is a way you can set up a free list builder by Marion Black. I am using it as well. It is pretty good. hope this helps.

Great post Matt. I feel that same as you. When I go to further myself I get bogged down with the day to day.

Hi Matt, There are two schools of thought on this. In the end, it is your decision. Having a PDF to give away is a great idea. Building a list is a must for long term growth. Developing a newsletter is also good. It is best that you have everything in place before you go online. Example: before you give a PDF away, have the autoresponder in place with at least 10 emails in place. If you do a newsletter, have at least 3 months of content in place before activating. This way you are ready and you can concentrate on the direction of your newsletter and the direction of your business. I would recommend Getresponse. It is an investment in your business but you need an autoresponder that works without fail because the automation is critical to success. Dave.

Hmm ok all of this makes sense. The only thing i can see wrong is i cant see a newsletter being able to be 3 months ahead as it would not be current

Some of the general content can be planned out in advance. You can then add material at the last minute to complete that particular segment. The whole point is to be as much ahead of the game as possible. It is far easier to be ahead then to be behind.

Hi MattWood, my understanding is you would use your site address, not your personal email, in the emails... Aweber was recommended to me as well. I have also used Mail Chimp. You may want to check out LeadPages in addition to Getresponse. Hopefully, you will have a few people here who are doing this regularly and experiencing good results weigh in on this – it would definitely benefit a lot of us!
All the best,
Isabella

Yes i would use my site address but i believe a postal address needs to be included in the footer

Oh yes the other question I wanted to ask, I believe I am correct in assuming you have to include a postal address in the emails. I don't want to use my personal physical address. Have any others found a way around this?

Use a PO box address

Yes i had thought of that i was hoping there may have been a cheaper way to sort something. I may have to bite the bullet when i am ready to implement my plan
