Picking My Niche?

Last Update: June 15, 2021

Hello everyone, and welcome to wealthy affiliate. The great thing about being here, is the community. We have some great people who are interested in helping you reach your goals and potential on your journey to success. I am one of them. I have been pondering for several days to write this, and decided to do it. I am far from an expert but, I have seen this question come up several times in the last couple of days. How do I choose a niche? There are several good choices in the wealthy affiliate training to do that, but I wanted to give some insight on my own version of how I picked my niche. When you first start out as a basic member you only get one free website. It is a siterubix.com website and you can name it anything you want. And all of this training by the way, is in your Level 1 training when you join Wealthy Affiliate. I would name it something that relates to your website. This is probably the only thing you cannot change once you create your domain name. What is a domain name? That is also covered in your level 1 training. But to put simply, it is the name of your website. When you begin to create your website, the training will cover most of what you need to know. If, you decide to become a premium member later on down the road, you will have up to 10 websites you can have at any given time. You will have a choice to create a .com, .net, and .org domain name for that website, that will be yours as long as you renew it every year. Once you register your domain name, nobody else can use that name. For example, I have a web page called Oasis Life Coaching. My domain name is www.oasislifecoaching.com. No one else can ever use that name, as long as I renew my registration every year. That website is through Wix.com. There are many website designers out there. Wealthy Affiliate allows you to create your own website and domain name all in one place. You can get your domain name from several companies as well. I am sure most of you have heard of Go Daddy. They are one of the largest Domain name carriers on the market. I also have two Wealthy Affiliate websites I am working on. www.theoasis-healthandwellness.com and www.starthomeonlinebusiness.com. I am still working on both of those websites, but they are open to the public. And for the new people coming on to Wealthy Affiliate, I am a premium member. So, you can check out both of those web pages and see what a premium website and theme looks like. Here at Wealthy Affiliate, you can create a web page and choose your domain name all in one site. Wealthy Affiliate is one of the best website companies out there. In my opinion, of course.

Your first web page, is usually a kind of web page that you will practice on, because you will learn as you go and make mistakes and grow into a strong site manager from fixing any mistakes you have made along the way. Just remember there is nothing you can't fix on your website. The hardest thing you will have to do is pick your niche. We all have had the same problem. So, you're not alone. Don't over think this. Although you want to make money right out of the gate, the truth is, in affiliate marketing, it is going to take some time. So, enjoy the process and learn as you go. Let me tell you how I chose my niche.

My first suggestion would be to tell you to pick something you enjoy and are passionate about. Not only is this going to be your business, but it has to be fun. Why are you doing this if you're not going to have fun? If, you are doing this strictly for the money, you will not sustain the rough times through your journey. So, learn as much as you can about Affiliate Marketing and have fun doing it.

Getting people to your website is all about trust. If people don't trust you, they will not buy from you, or trust a service you provide. So, pick something you love and have a pretty good knowledge about it. You are going to blog and post many articles on your web page about it. Getting your website ranked on Google is extremely important if you want to drive traffic to your website. So, writing quality content is crucial to getting ranked in Google. When you are in your website section of wealthy affiliate, and you tap on the Content tab, this will bring up the area where you will write all of your content for your website. It has some templates already there for you to use, and has some great tools for writing, like a grammar and spell check tool, which is one of the best in the industry. My advice would be to get to know and understand your Wealthy Affiliate website as best as you can. It is only to your advantage, to learn everything you can about the platform you are using.

Then you have to ask yourself two questions? First, who are you going to serve? Second, how are you going to serve them? Let's first talk a little bit about who you are going to serve. It's really hard to find customers, if you don’t know who are you looking to find. How do we fix that? Well, it is simple. You need to choose a customer demographic and a clear goal or service to help them. OK, what is a demographic? When you pick a niche, you want to pick a specific group of people. Demographics are broken down into 7 groups. Age, Gender, Income, Education, Family Life Cycle, Religion, and Socioeconomic Status. You're going to pick group and be specific within that group. Ex. Age – 20-year old's, over 50, Seniors. Or let’s pick another group. Family Life Cycle. Ex. Married, family with kids, kids leaving home (for the first time). And you can combine them to be more specific. 25-year-old women who are leaving home, or 50-year-old men with an associate degrees. Get specific as you can. This can be really anything you want it to be, but be as specific as you can. Baby boomers , Gymnasts, Parents, Motorcycle riders.

Now to the second question. How are going to serve them? What is something your customer wants and is willing to pay for? What is your goal? I want to help people retire, or I want to help people lose weight. You can look at this section in two ways. You can look at this from a psychological perspective. What service can I provide, or what product can I sell to them? If, you can take the psychological approach. What do people need? We break that down to the simplest form. If, you have ever taken a psychology course, then you have heard of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Simple needs, Physiological needs- food, water, air. Safety needs- shelter, employment, nutrition. Love and belonging – family, and friendship. Self Esteem – respect, confidence, and status. And finally, Self-Actualization – reaching your full potential or being the best you can be. So what kind of service can a provide? You can sell a service like a Tony Robbins seminar, how to get people to retire comfortably or how to live a healthy lifestyle. A service that someone is in need of like, water delivery or a website that offers aerobic training. Just think about how you can help other people.

Then we can look at the other side of the coin, in what products people need right now. People are still buying Designer Face Masks, Hand Sanitizer, Cleaning Wipes and Spray’s, Toilet Paper, Can Openers, Cheap Cookware, Food Service Plans, Disposable Gloves, Thermometers, and Streaming Services like Hulu and Disney, just to name a few. So again, the two questions you need to ask yourself are, who am I going to serve, and how am I going to serve them?

Conclusion: Don’t spend a lot of time over thinking this. Look at your gifts and strengths and use what you know. Do something you really enjoy doing. This is your time. Do something you always wanted to do. This is just the beginning. You will have plenty of time to change gears and do something else related to your website or something totally new later on. Just do something now and get started. The more time you waste deciding what to do, the more time you lose getting your website out to the public. If, you need any more help, please email me or private message me. I love to help people. I am here for you. Good luck to everyone on their journey to success with Wealthy Affiliate and where ever life my lead you.

All the best,

Michael Astuto

Hey George, Actually the one website is my Life Coaching website. The other two are from Wealthy Affiliate. These are the only two I will be working with until I get a real good handle on this Affiliate Marketing. I certainly don't want to over-extend myself. I have much to do to finish both websites. I have a long way to go. Thanks for the comment and encouragement.
All the best,
Michael
