We have a website that has content in two lenguages. Now we have hidden all content in one lenguage and created another website for that content.
Is ti going to affect SEO
Yes it would,I would suggest you to use 301 redirect(https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/93633) to new location for each post. This way you wil ltell google that you moved
You can use plug in like that https://wordpress.org/plugins/pretty-link/
Gives you the ability to create clean, simple URLs on your website that redirect to any other URL (allows for 301 and 307 redirects only)
Thank you, Maksim! Very helpful answer :)
The website is a Google Site...and we created the second page with the prefix for our language, but the main site is in English. The flag links to the new page with duplicated content.
Do you suggest it would be better to use 301 redirect on hidden posts, or should we delete them all together?
I would do 301s as Google already indexed this content to old links and could see it as duplicates.
I know this info bit old but you should get the idea ( I have lost my ranking on a few search keywords. I've just realized that part of it is because I didn't redirect my old URL's to the new ones.) http://virtualmechanics.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1246038591/m/5897072016
Uggh..my friend deleted it...I hope there's a way to get it back and 301 it.
Anyway, thank you so much for your help, Maksim. You're really resourceful :)
p.s. sorry for the slow reply, my internet went out for a while.

How does duplicated content on two websites affect seo?

Hi, I just came across this and am confused as to why you've had to do re-directs. I have one website in one language, and want it to have a version available in English. However I don't want to use an automatic translate feature because they are far from perfect, and a sub domain prefix looks ugly, so I am thinking of buying another domain name with a different suffix, e.g. .co.uk, and putting the same content and layout on. But obviously I don't want this to affect my SEO negatively. Surely Google won't penalise, - as the words are all different of course, ?
Greetings Heather!

Having said that, take a look at http://www.theshortcutts.com/ and search for "Does translated content cause a duplicate content issue?"
You can search using Control-F for a Windows PC, or Command-F for the Mac.
Hope this helps!
