Hey WA! So the first problem I have relates to the featured image on my static home page. It suddenly appeared to be blurred, so I uploaded the same image again and now the hea

I'm not sure what effect you're trying to do - I see a full size image, and it looks grainy, but not bad. It might have to do with the original image size. For full res pictures, you might need 1000px or 2000px+ WIDE to get a crisp portrait style image.

Since you're using the WA image optimizing plugin Kraken, that might be crunching your image anyway, also causing blurriness.

The current portrait style image doesn't look like a "featured image" though. It just looks like an image on the page. I'm not sure if "featured image" is exactly what you're trying to do.

Hey, when you say you see a full size image are you talking about my static home page, as it still shows the image cropped with their heads chopped off.

I have deactivated the plugins and then replaced the image again, but it's made no difference. I have even enlarged it using the pixels you suggested, but the image comes out exactly the same every time.

I did add this portrait image as a featured image to my home page, so it is a page not a post. Not sure whether that makes a difference?

I don't know what else to try.

So I have now removed the featured image from my home page and instead I've set it as the background image. Please let me know what you think.

Not sure whether I can make it any larger to take up some of the white space on the left. If I select fill screen then all the text appears over the top of the image, making it very hard to read.

Thanks
Lisa

The design looks fine, but I still see only a stand-alone image on the home page. Definitely add some content there so people can read what your site is about, and what the image context is.

There should be some text down the right hand side that shows the latest posts I have written.

I will try to find where I can add further info on my home page, as I agree it looks really bare.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by image context?

Although, this is just a static page. You can then access my blog separately by clicking that option at the top of the Home page.

Thanks
Lisa

I just mean that a home page with a single image and no text explaining what the image is about, or what your website about is kind of confusing. I'd write a short blurb about your website to introduce people to what your site is about.

Oh yes sorry. Thought you meant linking my image or something that I wasn't aware of. As always many thanks for the great advice!

Deactivate the plugins that are causing the problems. If that fixes things then delete the plugins.

I've deactivated the plugins and then removed the image on my static home page and then added it again, but I still get the same problem, it's cropped and the heads are chopped off.

I'm not sure what has changed, as it use to show the full image when I first set up the site.

Go to Settings > Media and see if everything is as it should be. and try a different theme.

Hi

I use Canva. Just go to Canva.com and create an account. Then you can search for "blog banner" template.

It works every time for me.

Hope that helps.

Hi JG,

I have an account with Canva, so will try this and let you know how I get on.

Thanks
Lisa

Since adding Google Ads to my site, my header seems to have increased. I have found some previous posts about the same thing and have tried adding the relevant code to CSS, but

Did you add Google ads into the header?

The header size should not have grown unless there's an ad displayed there. If you put in an ad into the header, it would increase the size.

Keep mind you may have made some other changes like adding menu items or changing settings along the way too.

Lastly, double check you didn't change any code if you added your Adsense code in to </head part of your theme code.

Here's the theme documentation for your theme. I don't see anything about sizing the header. https://freepsdworld.com/docs/fino-free/index.html

Thank you for this. It's strange because the header was not originally this big until I added Google Ads. Do you think it could be anything to do with that? It's driving me crazy!

Hey guys, can anyone help please.

I have a company designing a website for me, which I will then add to WA. They are asking me for name of hosting and/or domain provider

Your hosting provider will be Wealthy Affiliate.

SiteSupport: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support will be able to provide you with any technical information they need. Actually, they can move the site for you if the website is currently hosted somewhere else.

To have your company build the website here, you'll have to give them the login details to your WA account, then have them navigate to the https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/build

OR

You could have them:

1) Point DNS to WA's servers
ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

2) YOU create the domain in SiteDomains
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains
"Add Domain" button

3) YOU build an empty website on that domain
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites
(Pick any theme, any website name. Doesn't matter. They'll overwrite this later)

4) Give your company the FTP information from the empty website you just built
Domain Name
Username
Password
Port 21
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites

Then they'll just upload your fancy website to replace the empty website.
Done!

Let us know if you have any trouble with this Lisa.

You can find that information here at your WA profile. Go to 'Websites' (left side bar) --> 'Site Manager' --> pick the right domain name --> 'Details' --> 'Domain Details'

As far as I know that's all you need. Good luck!
