This is what my dad use to say to us when he knew we weren't telling the truth about something or when someone just found something or someone gave them something of value just because. He would also say, "It takes money to buy land." This is when you need to prove how badly you really wanted something. These old adages really made me laugh then and now they make me think. I cannot believe sometimes when I use these old sayings that my parents use to say to us.

I use to whistle all the time and my mom would say old people use to say a whistling woman and a crowing hen won't come to a good end. I asked what that meant, she would laugh and say I don't know but old women would always say that when she was a girl.

So, if you will please tell us something that someone that was significant in your life use to say or still says to you that you thought you would never say but it really makes sense to you now. You finally get what they were saying. (I still don't get the whistling woman and crowing hen...lol)

Every like will be appreciated and each comment enjoyed! Thank you!

My Dad use to say "You're in the soup now" meaning it's too late to turn back so just go for it. Thanks for the memories. Debbie

I do understand that. Greetings Debbie. You are welcome. It is funny how certain things can happen and your mind goes straight to what someone would have said to you when you were a child. I cherish those memories.

What a perfect analogy...you had a very wise father...thanks for sharing...

Greetings Arthur,
Thank you. I still have him and he is still preaching and teaching. Thank you for stopping by.

One speech that my Dad gave to all 7 of us was "I showed you how much I love our country, now it's your time to do the same". He gave this speech to us when we became seniors in high school. All 7 of us joined the military. 5 of us ended retiring from the military after 20 year of service, myself 22 years. Dad did 20 years.

Wow, what a legacy! Thank all of you for your service. Greetings Jerome. This is incredible. Thanks especially to your dad. Thank you for sharing.

When some would say "I thought so", my Dad would say "Thought killed a man once but he didn't quite die" He went to his grave refusing to explain exactly what it meant. My revenge is doing the same think with my kids.

Hello Leon,
I have never heard this one before. They will ponder over this for a while. Thank you for sharing.

My dad used to say, when confronted with some cash, "Money ain't everything, but it beats the hell out of whatever's in 2nd place." That attitude is part of what got me in trouble with money issues as a younger man. Blessings to you today!

Greetings Barry, I knew a man that said money isn't everything it is the only thing and man was he in a lot of trouble trying to get it. It is important and a high priority. We have to treat it as a friend and not a seductress and use it up at our every opportunity. Thank you for sharing.

When someone say something that doesn't makes sense to my father, he responds with "what's that got to do with the price of tea in China" .

I have heard that one. Greetings Isaac. My father would use cheese instead of tea in China. He loves cheese. Have you found yourself using this? Thank you for sharing.

My parents used to say "oh well parch parch". I use it sometimes. I guess it means that's the way it goes

Luthor

Hello Luthor,
I have never heard that. I like it. Thank you for sharing.

My dad would sing an old song about reading writing and arithmetic taught to the tune of a hickory stick Marquette!

I know that song and have felt that hickory stick a few times. All for the better. Greetings Mike. Thank you for sharing.

just shows how much we remember as children that we repeat to our children without realizing what we're dong

You are right Davida. I will say something to my daughter and she will say that must be something from Granny and Papa. I usually end up laughing because she is right. She gets the message though. Thank you for sharing.

Hello, Marquette. I think that most people see whistling as a man thing just like crowing a cock thing. You can google it and you will see a lot of assumptions.

Hi Nelson,
Yes you are right. I showed it to her and we enjoyed looking it up. She was tickled. Thank you for sharing. She also said that when in the olden days people heard a hen trying to crow; she would end up in the pot. lol
