The wait to be great

This is such a horrible topic, because it affects so many of us, and this is not in a good way. We all want to be great, but we have to work at greatness it does not just happen.

The reason I say this is a horrible topic is because everyone will agree with what I have to say about, patience, perseverance, keeping at it etc. But when that failure feeling come, that doubt feeling creeps in, we get what I call the "wait anxiety."

If you are writing to be great and you are not actively working to be great, chances are you will never be great. This article is not for the person that want to complain about no success when they haven't put in the work to achieve success. I say again greatness take shard work.

So back to the wait. We are so impatient in everything that when things don't work like we want or expect them to work, and in the timeframe we say they must work, we run for the safe ground, the happy comfy place where we don't have to risk anything. And from this safe sideline like a spectator that once played football years and years ago, we shout out criticisms, and how things don't work.

But there is a silent dream killer built into us from years of mingling with a society that does not tolerate dreams. It pops into our heads and creeps into our hearts, trying to convince us that it is all for naught, we cannot do it. Those that believe the lie are the ones that give up, and most of the times they let go of their dreams as well.

So, how do we overcome this enemy of the dream, of the entrepreneur and of hope. The answer is surprisingly simple:

  1. Have a dream that is worth all the effort you have to put in to achieve it
  2. Have a dream that excites you more that the wait anxiety drags you down
  3. Very important: Action - wait anxiety will stop your action in its tracks, Get back into action and start working at it. Do something, it kills that dead feeling.

Finally I leave you with this. If something is not working, don't go into action doing the same thing over again, you will not get different results. Try something new, keep a log of your actions this way you will always move forward and not get stuck in a place with no progress.

Well said Marius.

Great post, all so true. Sometimes hard to keep at it.

Waiting is easier if you're confident of the outcome. If I knew how many of my fellow WAers were ranking after 3 months and closing business by 5 months I could possibly calibrate my expectations.
Since that knowledge eludes me, I'm left with raw belief in my own ability, value and power, and confidence that if ANYBODY can do it, I can.
I'm pretty full of myself, but still, I'm not sure how long that intentional overconfidence will last. It has held up pretty well so far, though.

Your thoughts in the first paragraph don't sound like something K&C would try to incorporate into this training platform, since they seem to ascribe more to the thinking in your second paragraph.

As Marius states ... it's better to be "working to be be great" than "waiting to be great".

Just saying.

I think they are wise to focus on patience and confidence, as the platform hosts such a wide range of students of varying experience and divergent niches. Clearly, we climb the training ladder at different rates and apply various skill sets. Best not to create unrealistic or overly pessimistic expectations. The way it works now seems pretty effective.

Any of us that aren't "working to be great" are unlikely to hang around here long enough for it to be worth the wait... If they don't realize that a LOT of work is required, then they are in the wrong place.

Waiting is always the hardest part.
