Wealthy Affiliate Classes
First of all, I want to say that it's an excellent idea. Having people who know also teach. I love it. I mean, I am a sucker for knowledge, and sharing knowledge contributes to any society. Knowledge is power.
Also, kudos to those of you that are putting time and effort to make those classes. I appreciate that kind of dedication.
Here comes the ugly BUT
But! Video training, courses, classes are for the YouTube generation. Or Millenials, they are called? Statistically speaking youngers hate to read nowadays. I'm nearly fifty, so I do not suffer the Millenial "disability". In fact, I rarely watch videos or TV unless I am with a company.
As for information through video vs information via a written medium, I have to say.
Written words vs Spoken words
Written words are usually carefully designed, Grammarly checked, thought through, and more detailed. On the other hand, spoken words use excessive repetition, corrections, pauses, and if it is not following a strict pre-written script, they can be vague, unclear, hard to understand.
Time
There is a misconception that watching videos to gain information saves time. In some cases, it might be through; however, if one wants to grasp the full material, either should pause, make notes, go back or watch the vids repeatedly. An average person reads about two hundred words per minute. On the video, unless the presenter reads or cites a strict pre-written script, two hundred words can take much longer because of the pauses, corrections, fill-words like ok, so, now, etc.
I am a fast reader. I read an average of five hundred words per minute which means I can absorb information several times faster by reading than waiting and sitting through the presenter getting through the material. Ergo, lots of time is wasted. A day only has twenty-four hours. Unless we learn to apply some aspects of quantum elements, twenty-four hours will always be our fixed budget for the day.
Why not both?
There are still many people who would prefer videos to read, but how about this? Why not both? How about a written transcript is added to the class material of the video. I have seen it elsewhere. Either a downloadable pdf or just included in the description or through a link.
- Again, it would benefit those that prefer to read stuff.
- As a written content, it would add to the website's searchable material so people could search for its content. (If the written content is within.)

I love Wealthy Affiliate and its concept. That is why I am here and learning continuously every day. Things always can be better, more effective so we all can harness the absolute most of it.

Hey Magus I like being able to have a transcript and highlight important points that I get from a video. So I endorse the dual approach. I noticed as well that YouTube allows you to download transcripts of text. It comes out unformatted which is a bummer but at least you have the text.

I didn't know that about YouTube. Isn't it more like text capture of the spoken material? Because that's not really good then.
This is an excellent idea, Andy.
I know that some members add transcripts and supporting documents to their training.
However, for the main WA training, they may not be available.
It would be a welcomed addition.

I really like how the Boot Camp and entrepreneur training are done. It applies. Both video and written context. I think all classes made by members could be done that way.
It is a style preference, Magus.
That said, if we put ourselves in the role of visitor/fellow member/customer, it is an excellent approach.

That is an awesome concept that you are requesting.
Sometimes the video transcript or a part of it is below the video , it still depends on the training that you are watching
Why not put a message under Kyle's profile and let him know your thoughts on this?

Thank you! I try not to bother the big guys. They have their plates full, plus not sure if they need to change anything. Class makers can add written context to the description.
