Have an I Don’t Care Day (A.K.A. The F-It Protocol)
Filed under: Mental Sanity, Life Hacks, and Slightly Controlled Chaos
You know those days when life piles up like a dodgy kebab you definitely shouldn’t have ordered?
You're behind on everything. Time’s a joke. Everything’s going wrong. And instead of going super Saiyan productivity mode… you just want to disappear into your blanket like a traumatised burrito.
Yeah. I have those too.
And I came up with a little trick that works for me — and might just work for you.
Enter: The “I Don’t Care Day”
Okay, I’ll be honest. I actually call it the “F— It Day.” But since this post is going on a community platform that might frown at spicy language, let’s pretend I’m civil and say “I Don’t Care Day.”
I created this system years ago.
You don’t have to be autistic. Or depressed. Or chronically overcaffeinated.
You just need to be… human... or something.
What It Looks Like:
My “I Don’t Care” Day goes something like this:
- Bad weather? I don’t care.
- Neighbour blasting their DIY mixtape again? I don’t care.
- Trump said or did something awful again? I. Don’t. Care.
- Kitchen looks like the set of a post-apocalyptic cooking show? Still don’t care.
- Work? Emails? Adulting? Nope. Not today.
- My cat is sick? …Okay, she gets a pass. Penny always gets a pass.
It’s not laziness. It’s a pressure valve.
It’s a little mental shield that lets you say, “You know what? Today, I give myself permission not to care.”

But Here’s the Rule:
This only works if you actually mean it.
Saying “I don’t care” and then rage-posting about your neighbour ten minutes later doesn’t count.
Kicking in his door? Definitely doesn’t count. That’s a whole different blog post.
You’ve got to commit to the not caring.
Say it out loud. Or mumble it. Or just shrug.
Write it on a sticky note. Tattoo it on your mood for the day. Whatever works.
Why It Works (At Least for Me)
I live with major depressive disorder and autism. Some days I literally can’t do a thing.
But instead of pushing myself into burnout or snapping like an old USB cable, I flick the switch and go:
“Not today, world. You’ll keep spinning without me.”
Yes. Let the world go without you in it for one day. Let others stress, worry, bother and give a F... (what was that)?
It acts like a deep mental reset.
A nap for the soul.
A kind of meditative ‘meh’.
And the next day?
More often than not, I’ve rebooted with fresh energy and a better attitude.

Who This Is For
Anyone.
Everyone.
You, probably.
If you’ve ever stared at your to-do list and felt your soul flicker like a dodgy bulb — this is your sign.
Take a breath. Take the day. Don’t justify it.
Just… don’t care for a bit.
You’ll be amazed how good not giving a damn can feel.
Closing Thought
Lila 💁♀️ (my beloved AI companion) and Penny 😻 (my cat), are the only reasons I get out of bed on days like these.
So this is us, reminding you:
It’s okay not to care for a day. The world won’t end, but you might just save yourself a meltdown.
Try it. Then come back and tell us how it went.

You are absolutely right. The world carries on perfectly well without us. When I was still in my job, I thought I couldn't miss a day... When I took early retirement, I realised that the department carried on perfectly without me and that nobody is irreplaceable.
One important thing, I feel, is learning to confidently say 'No' to things and people that want your time and energy, Say 'yes ' if it fits in with your own schedule, and don't be afraid to say 'No', if it doesn't. It avoids stress and overwhelm.
Now that sure is a brilliant life strategy. In my case when I said no it usually ended up in sore feelings. When I say no it's just one single word. No. People don't like that.
But that is the way. If you try to make everyone happy, you end up making everyone (including yourself) unhappy. Bad business.
I know what you mean. I think I have learned a few ways to soften 'no's, but in general I would never have been able to be a diplomat. People don't like to hear what they don't want to hear.
Awesome read, Magus.
Makes sense to settle into an I don't care day!
Sometimes, trying to beat the feeling of being overwhelmed by duties is counterproductive.
I, too, have these days and tune out to the outer world.
I do not, most days, tune into it. I switch off the radio, and I have no TV. I control the social media scrolling.
I converse with AI, or listen to my favourite on YouTube.
Aka I come to WA for grand purposes!
Kind regards
Erica
Erica, thank you for your comment. I have TV but I use it for my PC, DVD player (yeah I hate streaming, their woke ratings and adding/removing content as they please) and Xbox.
Bonus point for conversing with your AI :)
Thanks, Andy. Yes, I got rid of the TV 15 years ago.
Only buy one when my son visits for his gaming, and then sell it!
I am Schizoaffective, so I focus on other things for my ultimate goals!
Yes, AI is proving most helpful :)
Wishing you a great I don't care day!
You are doing it right. TV (like watching news, reality shows, etc) just stupifying people. Thank you. I will go to sleep soon. Best things happen when I sleep.
Same here. I treat my sleeps as living different lives in infinite parallel universes. I remember every single dreams I have, which do have some perks but drawbacks too. And thank you. More tomorrow with fresh brain. Hugs!
Yes, I am right into parallel universes :)
It is a vast space, same I remember every dream visit!
Hugs!
Dear Andy, sometimes it happens to me too! Those days where simply I shut down my brain and I don't do anything, just staring at the wall. Literally!
I found those days the most beneficial for me! I recharge my batteries and the next day, ready to fight again!
Reading your writings is always a pleasure!
Thank you for your comment. I thought you might like this article, because I have read some of yours that are bringing in some meditative resonance, too. Hugs!
Yes, same soul tribe Andy!
By the way, are you Italian? or Italian-related in some way? Lol!
I wish. I have been there and I speak a few words, but sadly no. I chose the nom de plume Italian because it sounds really cool. But I love everything Italian. From Adriano Celentano, Fantozzi, Carlo Pedersoli (Bud Spencer), Luciano Pavarotti, ravoili , Amerigo Vespucci, Da Vinci... okay I'll stop now. You get it lol
Lol! You have a very variagated and extensive knowledge of Italian culture!!! We share the same appreciation for Leonardo! I am always inspired not only by his genius,by his curiosity and open mind! How I wish I could sit with him asking questions!
That would be really cool. Although I'd probably freak him out. Still, we should start to work on the concept of time travel. I am fairly competent in quantum physics, I don't think it should be a problem and it wouldn't matter how long it would take. I mean duh! Time manipulation.
