The Corona Virus Panic

The residents of New York are experiencing a CORONA VIRUS panic. The contamination is spreading faster than wild fire. Some schools started closing for a couple of days, hoping that they can control the spread of the virus but have extended the closings for a week instead.

My grand daughter came home for Spring break from the University of South Carolina and found herself staying home and doing her studies online. Her return air plane ticket had to be canceled.

What to Buy to Survive

In order to survive a human being requires water and food. We all know that. The question is what should we buy in order to be able to stay home, and not go out for a long period. What is practical. My suggestion: can products, pasta, rice, and water, also juices

In expectation of a LOCKDOWN people are buying everything available on the shelves of the supermarkets, and drugs stores creating shortages on a variety of products . It started with disinfectants and sanitizing products. I could not purchase alcohol or Lysol. Every one is stocking up on none perishable food items, cleaning products, paper goods as well as a great deal of frozen foods and water. We first ran out of all cleaning products and disinfectants than water, fallow by toilet paper and meat. To my surprise there is a shortage of toilet paper. Yes you need paper but the most essential products are food and water.

Replenishing

The shelves are restocked during the night. The night crew will clean, rearrange and rotate the shelves. At 7am in the morning the parking lot is already full of people doing shopping. And by 2pm the shelves are almost empty again. The store is having difficulties keeping up with the demand of staples. So as of Monday, March 16, the store hours are changing from 7am to12am which are the normal hours to 7:30 am to 8pm until further notice.

This is generally to allow the associates to replenish the store shelves to its full capacity.

On the other hand besides being concern for my family and friends safety I have been wearing a mask to protect myself. I have been praying that this nightmare to pass and be over soon. I have to work and being a cashier puts me at very high risk since I am in contact with so many people. And also my age puts me at a higher risk as well.

Mayor Bill de Blassio has closed New York City schools for two weeks. Thank God for that. My daughter gets to stay home with the kids and I will stay in my house except when I have to work.

I will be very happy when I master my Wealthy Affiliate training and get the choice to work from home if I need to.

Stay calm and use logic to decide. :)

Thank you. I am trying. I hope all is well for everyone.

Same challenges, different solutions and reactions from the public. Buy what you need and leave some for others...

I do believe most people are caring. But when one gets panic one will no be reasonable. Thank you.

Good info, yet we will still be able to shop here in Ohio. Our governor has closed schools until Mid April and may for the rest of the school year. As of last night Restaurants have also.
It's just my wife and I , and being retired and working from home is ok for me, but she is a little over 65 and they are considering telling over 65 years old individuals they will have to stay home, which would not be a good thing for us.
She is a top administrator at the child care center of a huge hospital. Hopeful that her being there 31 years will make a difference. She is in great health and no underlying health issues. Health is more important than $$ , yet they will only may a portion of her salary if she has to go home, and it's not a position she can work from there. Perhaps this will calm down in 3-4 weeks.
Certainly our learning and doing an online business is proving to be most important in this time we are in.
Take care, and stay safe.
Bill

Thank you Bill. Sometimes some individuals will put money as a priority in their life, but if you don't have your health you have nothing. Some of us have to work. I for one can not stay home. I have two jobs and I am 77years old. If I don't work who's going to pay my bills. I am sure this too will pass. It all depends on how long it will take. Hopefully soon.

Be safe. :)

Great information. My daughter works for Walmart as a cashier and expresses the great importance of protecting herself and others by wearing mask, gloves and the use of hand sanitizer. The most thing that is touched by everyone, has not been talked about and that is the passing of money.

You are right, the money is an issue. Unless you have tight well fitted gloves the money is a problem to handled. We are also required to handled the discount card. I tried to use the hand scanner so I won't have to touch the card but many times I forget and scanned the cards by hand. Another thing that I am concerned with is the payment station. Every body has to put their pin number and information on that pin pad. No matter how often I clean it, It is always contaminated. I tell people to use some kind of barrier between their fingers and the pin pad. It's insane!
