Good Deeds Brighten Our Days

It was a cold day in December and it snowed all night. There were about 10 inches of snow on the ground. Most people in the neighborhood would stay indoors unless there was an emergency.

Our home was in Toronto and this was not a good day for me because I love when I can be outside and not confine to the house. Mr. Stone my neighbor spent all morning cleaning snow from his driveway while his 13-year-old son played video games.

Mr. Stone went in the house while Jeff was still playing games and said to him, “Jeff will you remember what you are doing 20 years from now?”
Jeff replied, “I hardly think so but I am surely enjoying it.”
Mr. Stone asked Jeff “How would you like to spend 20 minutes and remember what you did 20 years from today?”
Jeff said “That sounds good”
Mr. Stone said to Jeff “Get dress and come.”

Still wondering what his father was thinking, Jeff got into some warm clothes and went to him. Mr. Stone told Jeff to go and get the snow off Ms. Bowen’s driveway. Mrs. Bowen was an older person who lived a few houses from the Stones.

Jeff went to Ms. Bowen’s home and just as his father said it took him 20 minutes to clean the snow off the driveway. Ms. Bowen came out and gave Jeff a big thank you. Jeff never forgot the smile that was on her face when she said thanks.

We can relate to that story here at WA. Sometimes we do simple things for individuals and they expressed their gratitude in a way that we will remember for a long time.
Doing good deeds will help to brighten our days.

Thanks for sharing a lovely story Luna. I remember my first day at WA a year ago. 1 Member nearly made me leave WA and never come back and another convinced me to stay and give it a try. I remember both members and the conversation.

Unfortunately, "bad deeds" can have the same effect:).

You are so right. I am glad you stayed. Sometimes bad deeds linger on longer in our minds. We have to try to forgive ignorant people and the memories won't be as bad.
Have a blessed day!

It's not just that we do it, it's also how we do it. If we do it with a smile on our face, or in our voice or even a smile in an email rather than doing it because we have to or should makes all the difference in the world. Doing something for someone out of the goodness or our hearts makes both people feel good. Do something nice for someone today.

That is so nice. Thanks for stopping by!

Thats true:-)

Thank you.

What a lovely story, thank you for sharing, Luna :)

Thanks for stopping by Carol!

Great story!!! :) It's so true about doing a good deed, and making someone's day and not expecting anything in return!! I love that feeling! :)

The best feeling is when you know you were not expected to be paid but you did it anyway. The gratitude that is shown on the other person's face is enough reward.

I totally agree! :)

It's a great experience Luna. Mixing business with friending is a great condition here!

Thanks, Mike, we have to try to help each other.
