Why Most New Affiliates Quit (And How You Can Stay in the Game)

You’ve spent hours creating value, adding affiliate links… and guess what? Nothing happens. Like thousands before you, you feel the silence. Not because you’re lazy, but because it feels like you’re doing something wrong.

Every new business has a warm‑up phase. Affiliate marketing is no different. It takes time to get started. Most people never push past the first wall of silence. They expect instant feedback and overnight riches. When it doesn’t come, they assume they’ve failed and jump to the next shiny object.

Your Niche Matters More Than You Think

Don’t chase what’s hot or jump on passing trends.

Choose something you’ll stick with — something you’re passionate about.

Writing 30 blog posts about a topic you don’t care about? Torture. And it won’t convert, anyway.

Your niche needs three things to make a difference:

  • Something you know or want to learn
  • A clear audience with real problems
  • Affiliate products that solve those problems

Trust is the bridge. People click affiliate links only when they trust you. And trust comes when your content helps them solve a problem.

Traffic Takes Time

Real traffic isn’t instantaneous.

Search engines need time to find your content.

Authority builds slowly.

Readers need time to decide whether to return.

You wouldn’t judge a gym routine after two workouts. Don’t judge your affiliate site after two posts.

How to Stay in the Game

Here’s how you avoid joining the quitters:

  • Stick with it.
  • Learn one thing each week.
  • Write one post at a time.
  • Take the time you need to learn all you can.
  • Ask questions.
  • Stay active.
  • Keep improving.

The Real Secret

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

The ones who make it aren’t the fastest.

They’re the ones who stayed invested in their future and gave their all.

Very true Luc. Many of us who are earning income now, started out just like this. Personally when I started, I chose the very competitive niche of Health & Wellness and thought success was coming quickly.

Even though I was passionate about it and was able to create a lot of content on it, I was expecting income to come fast because I was building quickly. I didn't take my time to get consistent traffic.

I learned the hard way that you can have a great niche and lots of content, but if you do not have traffic you don't earn income. This only comes by staying in the hunt for success with lots of patience.

Now I'm in another type of a Health & Wellness niche. This time I was patient, concentrated on developing trust and I even stepped away from being active within WA to accomplish this. It worked!

Thank, Robert for sharing your stories. These are kinds of comments I want to read over and over again. I am still where you were at that time: no traffic yet.

Do I change the niche? Do I wait a bit? I have been fixing SEO and AEO issues recently, and the visitors increased, but it's too early to expect conversion.

Yes, traffic is king. No sales without it.

It was my pleasure John. It takes time and a lot of patience. Even in this age of AI, doing deep keyword research and basic SEO, is still the best way to gain traffic.

If I can get one of my WA Blogs, see below, to rank on Page 4, Position 4 of Google in 7 days, for using basic keyword and SEO techniques, it can also be done with website content.

Of course a WA Blog will get indexed and ranked quicker than our own website content, because WA has brand authority, but the point is, basic SEO still works best for getting traffic.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences again, Robert. I'll check out the post just next.

You are welcome, John.

This something I think I know, but do I? Hundreds of posts, but no sales or engaging traffic except for members who comment, all from the WA. That's not success. Something is wrong.

Or...maybe it's just too early to think that way. Whatever is the case, your post is speaking to me. I have to save it and read it again until it sinks in.

Yes it does take time. Then there are also things you can’t control like Google updates than make your traffic drop … 🤣
