Keeping Your Motivation Going.
Motivation is what drives you to achieve your goals, to make things that you want happen, and it is influenced by the following:
1. how much you really want the goal you've made.
2. what you stand to gain from the goal you've made.
3. your personal expectations of the outcome.
Why is Motivation so important?
But staying motivated isn't always easy. Keeping motivated is important because...
1. It provides you with goals to work towards
2. It helps you to solve obstacles and problems
3. It helps you to change old habits and develop new better ones.
4. It helps you to better cope with challenges and opportunities
How to foster good motivation habits.
Many people struggle with keeping their motivation, but it can be even more challenging if you have mental health issues such as depression or anxiety which are prevalent nowadays.
So, here are some tips to help you out:
1. Set yourself just one specific, achievable goal.
2. Consider how you are going to include that goal you have made into your life, what you need do to make it happen, and then put a realistic timeframe on it, don't ask too much of yourself.
3. Break down the goal into small, easy tasks and set yourself regular reminders.
4. Bring in your family and friends as support β tell them about your goals and encourage them to help keep you motivated. Accept the support offered and be aware of your own limitations.
Tips on how to keep motivated
1. Review your goals often and track your progress. Seeing that progress, no matter how small, is a great motivator in itself, and also improves your self-esteem.
2. Continue to set yourself new goals. Think about what you want to achieve next week, next month and next year. Tackle one goal at a time so you donβt get overwhelmed.
3. Keep up the momentum. It takes up to 3 months (21 days) to develop a new habit, so keeping the momentum and routine helps it to feel more automatic over time.
4. Find a mentor β a mentor is someone who has experience in the habit you are wanting to develop or change. Finding support from people who have the same interest can really help and inspire you.
5. Surround yourself with positive and enthusiastic people.
Positive friends and family enhance your own positive self-talk, which also helps to manage the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
6. Make some time for a spot of daily exercise. Walking, cycling, swimming or some energetic gardening. Make this one of your daily goals to improve your mental health.
What to do when you lose motivation
Setbacks are normal and to be expected. That's life, unfortunately. But developing some resilience can help you to get back on track and pick up where you left off.
1. Keep reviewing your goals and check that they are realistic. You might be better off breaking your goals down even further into smaller and more achievable goals.
2. Remember your WHY!
why you wanted to get motivated or reach that goal in the first place.
3. Take your motivation from others β feel inspired by reading a book or watching a Tedtalk, or talking to a mentor or friends or family who have reached similar goals to the ones you have set. Be open to learning from others.
4. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with just taking a break and starting again if you need to.
I hope you all find something useful to take away from this.
