Reminder that from March 2024 Google will also take a look at accesibility of your site!

Hi all,

At the end of last year, some of us, including me, got a warning on Google search console, that the accessibility for screenreaders on my site wasn't that good, and that with the next Google core update in March this year, this was going to be even more important.

Most of the time, this will be fine for you, but if you are like me and like to play around with different colors on your website, you really should check the accessibility on speed insights, as some contrasting colors are hard to read for screenreaders.

So make sure to check it before the next update and arrange your colors if they aren't accessible!

I finally got the numbers in green, on mobile as well as on desktop, but it did take me some work to get there

So if it is green, then don't worry, if it is lower, I would work on it, because when google itself mentioned it, I'm pretty sure that this will be important from the month of March.

If you want to correct something, just click on the accessibility button to see what needs to be done.

In my case, it is only a code that I had done by someone on Fiver, so I will not pay him again to adjust the code, as 93 is fine.
So if you have a background color that isn't too readable for screenreaders, this is mostly easily changeable in your 'customizing' settings.

But as I said, for most of you, this won't be a problem I think,

Good luck!

Lizzy

Appreciate the reminder Lizzy, as long as we are in the green it should be ok!

I just hope that having too many de-indexed posts won't be a problem!!

What do you think my friend? :-)

2

nono, the de-indexing of posts has nothing to do with accessibility for screenreaders ;-)

Thanks for letting us know. Thankfully I don’t have to worry, I got a score of 100 so I am fine :)

I actually like that update, since I had many people ranking number 1 and their site is messy, and I can’t really read anything of it.
