Half Year Update: $9K 2018 vs $23.6K 2019

Last Update: July 03, 2019

Hello WA Warriors! I've missed you! :)

Thought it would be time for a half year update, even though my results have not increased more than I wanted by this point, it has more than doubled since last year.

2019 Half Year Update:

This year so far has been more growth for me, I've been doing a lot of learning outside of WA to advance my skills.

One thing you know for sure is that you can never stop learning.

Although WA has many resources here to learn from as well as their core training, there are still many aspects that WA does not teach so I have gone elsewhere to learn.

Some of the things I've been learning about are email marketing, paid traffic (still very green in this area and not profitable), and sales funnels.

I've also learned some more things about YouTube videos and how to build my channel, so I've been concentrating on this very much the last 2 months especially.

It's been a tough year for my online business and Google's June update did NOT help one bit. In fact, my traffic is still half of what it used to be from before the update. This is another reason why I have to diversify my traffic with YouTube videos.

I believe blogs and YouTube videos, these two platforms, have the best chance of getting that highly targeted search traffic that we all want.

Organice Search traffic is incredible when you have it and it's well worth your time to build that kind of traffic. This is why most of us quit because most don't know it takes TIME to build this massive traffic machine.

When you have thousands of visitors coming to your site everyday, you can pretty much sell anything.

All online business is the same in this way, you need traffic.

I think that's why people get so confused about what they should do to build an onlline business, whether it be a Shopify store, drop shipping store, affiliate marketing, it really doesn't matter what you do, you need to know how to ddrive traffic.

If you don't know how to drive traffic, then you won't be able to sell online.

This is why I must really learn paid traffic this year so I can make up for my loss in free traffic, which will require a lot of work and money to learn.

I've also been working a lot this year on improving my conversions and I haven't been able to accomplish much in this department despite my testing, testing, and testing different landing pages, different styles, they all still convert at around 5-6%.

I really don't know why this is and not sure what else I need to do to bring this up. I hope once my YouTube traffic gets even better that my conversion rate will go up as that's what I heard will increase my converion rate.

Another BUMP in the road I had this year was my Facebook Pages, I've lost all ability to create new Pages and my Work Anywhere Now Page as well as my new Grace aka Littlemama Page are both gone.

Yes I've disputed and no, I won't get them back or my ability to create new Fan Pages.

Guess FB Ads are out for now.

I didn't think it was a big deal to lose those Pages, but I would be lying if it didn't hurt a bit. I do still have my FB group though so let's see how long that will last.

Gotta keep moving on and pushing forward!

2019 INCOME PROOF

Okay, now let's get you some of the income proof that makes up my $23.6K for 2019:

Affiliate Commissions $18K:

Display Ads on My Site $4,703:

Affiliate Commissions $345:

That's majority of it, and the remaining few hundred mostly comes from people who want to pay me to get their post on my blog.

So there you have it, my 2019 Half Year update.

Am I Half Way to My 2019 Goals?

LOL

Not even close. BUT I'm not giving up on them, I have much to do still this next half of this year and I hope to bring even better news in the months to come.

But, wow, this online business brings a lot of ups and downs that one must endure and work through to keep earning online.

So... I keep on grinding. Partly why I haven't written much here because I just have my head down and building, picking up the pieces that Google bombed on me.

HOW HAS YOUR 2019 BEEN?

I truly miss connecting with you guys so catch me up in the comments below since I just caught you up with mine!

I would love to hear how you have been doing. Has your online business income increased this year? New milestones?

Tell me what's happening in your online business!

I hope you are all doing well!!

Hello Grace,

Thank you for the update. It looks like things are on the up although you have had many challenges by the sound of it! It's encouraging that your income has increased dramatically, that's great news and very encouraging too!

I think sometimes we put too much emphasis on Facebook, I'm obviously sorry to hear that you have lost your Facebook pages, I have no idea why? My Webmaster has always told me not to focus on social media just my website content, however, I believe that you have quite a bit of experience in this area Grace.

I have been exceptionally busy with my off-line business so my online business is a bit slow at the moment. I think the work has now peaked and hopefully, I can get back to moving my online business forward again.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Roy, good to hear from you and great to read about your update.

Sounds like you're quite busy so that's still good. Your online business will be there when you're ready for it again. :)

Well, that's still a great income. Love how you're pushing through. Google really punished YMYL websites in the latest algorithm update. You're not alone.

Promoting WA is a proven business model that works. But since you're recruiting competitors it's a pretty crowded field as well. There are endless opportunities out there, and the wisdom you collected and are still collecting will help you take advantage of it.

I'm leaving WA at the end of this month. I never wanted to promote WA, and I feel like for the kind of business I'm establishing WA isn't the best resource out there. Although we're in different fields, you were always a great inspiration for me and I want to thank you for everything I've learned from you during the last 12 months.

Hi Phil, sorry to hear you go, but yes there are endless possibilities out there for sure so do what you want best. :)

I'm honored to learn that you've learned from me in the last 12 months, I know you'll keep learning as you come across even more bigger earners out there.

Have fun and I wish you much success online!

Hey Grace, I get that you may be feeling a little frustrated but looking at your WA payments a lot of people in the developed (and especially in the non developed) world would love to have that sort of recurring/royalty type of income ie around 3 thousand USD coming in each and every month without having to show up to your boss's place and clock in every day!

I agree with you about the need to look elsewhere if you want to learn about a range of other online marketing topics and I've often reflected on it during my 4 years here.

I suppose the guys here already give so much value that trying to build yet more into the platform might seem ridiculous, especially when you consider that they payout nearly half of their income in commissions.

When it comes to long term traffic from seo and long form blog type content, I found the guys at Income School (no links or affi commission earned with this mention) talk about it well.

In a nutshell, their take on it is to properly research your piece, use appropriate keywords and craft a long form post with a mix of text, graphics, images and video and make sure it is super seo'd with rich snippets, proper use of headings and tags, short sentences and paragraphs, making sure it gets indexed etc etc and then leaving it to Google to do it's thing over the following few months.

They use the analogy of the hockey stick shaped graph (graphic below credited to Comscore and Search Engine Watch) ie for several months after publishing nothing much other than a slight rise in traffic happens then, as the big G begins to do its thing, a steep rise in traffic is seen.

This steep rise may not happen for 6, 8 or 12 months after publishing (or maybe not at all for a poor post) but the "free" traffic it produces after that point and in the long run is well worth the initial time, effort and wait.

I say "free" because even though there may have been a time and effort cost for the production of the post in the first place, Google rewards that with the appropriate amount of free, organic and long lasting traffic that makes it all worth while.

Well done Grace, nice figures and I'm sure they will double again and more by this time next year!

Yes, I know about Income School, they are good guys. Yup, that pretty much sums up what we need to do to create high quality posts. :)

I hope you've been doing well in your 4 years here. :) Also, glad to meet you, I don't think I've seen you here before, and I've been here almost 3 years.

Glad you're around still, this is an awesome business for sure, I don't take it for granted, but it does has its ups and downs that we all need to prepare for.

That's why I wrote my blog to show more of the downs that you can experience in such a business.

Best to you!

Hi Grace - great to hear from you :-)

Amazing income result.

Sorry about the G hit and FB. They are a law unto themselves, particularly FB.

I was saying in a thread elsewhere that, as aff marketers, we rely on so few Big Boys. They are pretty much faceless and can do what they want without recourse..

It is absolutely essential to diversify as much as possible

And, as you say, the learning never stops. Regardless of how you think you've done you have taken girant strides forward! :-)

Look forward to your next update.

I think that's the lesson with these Google updates, until it hits you, you don't want to diversify because it's a lot of work! Lol But, it catches up as you can see... I have to diversify now.

I hope you're doing well Ian! Thanks again for stopping by.

Hello Grace, Thanks for the update - you are AMAZING!

May I ask: why in the world did FB shut down your pages?
That's a bummer - would be good to know if you can share insight if it's possible to do things differently to avoid getting FB pages shut down? (I haven't ventured there yet.)

Was there anything specific about Google's June update that negatively affected your website - do you have any way to know if there were/are specific things/elements on your website that affected your rankings as a result of the Google June update?

Thanks for inspiring your friends here at WA - it's so helpful to see what can be accomplished. Through your writing and your posts and training topics posted here at WA you are a mentor to many!

Hello Kate!

Thank you, appreciate your kind words!

I'm in the make money online niche and FB just doesn't like it. I didn't do anything different for the last 2 years+ and they just decided to shut those pages down.

The only reason they gave was I violated their policies.

Each Google update affects different things and this last one affected MMO niche it seems cuz it hit a lot of sites.

This is temporarily and if we continue to do all the right things as taught here in the training, then we should bounce back at some point so I'm not too worried, but it may take some time to recover.

Wish you much success here!

That is ridiculous (Facebook and Google shutting down valid, helpful making money online sites/pages), but you are right to look at it as an opportunity to diversify even more.

I just read a snippet comparing monthly active users on different platforms. Instagram and Youtube are huge (but then, ugh, they are now owned by FB (IG) and Google (Youtube) ... so will IG and Youtube also have making money online subjects on their hit list?

Monthly Active Users (July 2019)
Youtube 2+ billion
Facebook 2.4+ billion
Instagram 1+ billion

Pinterest 250+ million
Twitter 326+ million

In any event, these numbers tell me to get working on Youtube and Instagram! I kept thinking I need to jump in and learn Pinterest, but for me that will come AFTER I master Youtube and Instagram. Just not enough time to figure everything out on every platform, so I'll focus on IG and Youtube.

Thank you for posting your updates - you really are helping so many people as a mentor through your posts and comments.

For me you are seriously a rock star of affiliate marketing! The training subjects you have posted on WA are excellent.

Hi Kate,

Even just IG or YT, I would just concentrate on one, one is a LOT of work already.

I have no idea what the plans are for the MMO niche. There are tons of BIG channels in the MMO niche, so not sure if they would take all their own ad revenue away from all those videos so who knows.

Anyway, yes, bottom line, we should have several ways to get traffic.

Best to you!

Hi Grace - lovely to see a post from you!

I've always considered you to be a beacon of inspiration here at WA and it's great to see that you're still posting to the community.

I'm sorry that the June update hit you hard. It seems strange the people it affected (and didn't affect) but then, the Google algorithms have always moved in mysterious ways.

I hope your year continues to deliver results (which, for you, I'm sure it will). You might not reach your income goal but your income is impressive, nonetheless.

Stay awesome! :)

Yes the big G is always mysterious and always will be, have no idea what's going to happen in the future but I've heard it will eventually bounce back.

But, I won't be just sitting around to wait for big G so I'm jumping to another platform to build more traffic.

I will do my best to continue on and hope to report more great news in the future.

I've neglected writing on my blog for a bit in the past month because I've been learning other stuff and doing my yt channel but somehow, my traffic on the site is up (I get very little traffic to my site anyway, not sure why, so any improvement for me is like reaching the biggest milestone eeeveeer(!), rankings are getting better by the day. (And this is all since the day of the Google update. But, must say, I don't really understand these updates... )

You are going to crush it this year, Grace!

Yes that was a big milestone and I thought I would never get there. I'm going to now start to drive more views with YT Ads so I can get to 4000 watch hours to be able to put ads on my videos.

With the June update, yeah I have heard that the search results are favoring newer sites so not sure what's up with this which is in line with me hearing very established MMO sites have been down as well.

We'll see what happens, we can't get too bogged down or over analyze on things you can't control.

I just want to move on and drive new traffic. :)

Hey Grace! Wow you've had an incredible year of growth! It sucks to hear about the facebook page thing, but I think there's ways around that. You may need a Virtual Private Network and change your Page name to re-brand a little, but it can be done. Both Amazon and Ebay have cracked down on dropshippers, but people have found ways around that too. Don't leave out Instagram influencer ads, IGTV, solo ads, and pinterest for driving traffic as well. I took time off to focus on growing e-commerce for another income stream. I'm looking to grow a youtube channel as well, just need to practice and experiment more. My plan now is to focus on promoting WA and showing people how to get started with e-commerce on another site. There's so much to learn and teach!
Reply

Hey Daniel, thanks for reading my post and offering your input!

Trust me, I'm well aware of all the options out there for traffic so nothing is left out, but I'm not going to do everything. Concentrated effort on 1 or 2 platforms is best, and then move on to the next platform once you have gotten traction from them.

There is so much to learn for online, it's really never ending, but that's why you must pick and choose what to concentrate in, which I am with affiliate marketing. I don't do e-commerce anymore, I did some of that before I started with WA.

I wish you much success in all you do! Would love to hear about your progress. :)

I wish I had some comforting words for your recent challenges. As we both know this path we're on is like a rollercoaster ride most of the time. Definitely not what I imagined when I started but also better in many ways I didn't anticipate either.

It sounds like you've got some good things marinating though as you continue to widen your scope and diversify. I'm in the process of playing a little defense as well by diversifying, but it's hard at times to juggle both the push forward and the development of new skillsets.

Hi Jay,

Thanks so much for your warm comment! I'm also happy to share and hope it helps members here.

Yes, I think it's hard to do both as well and that's why you have to get yourself to a certain level first before you learn new skills.

What we have here at WA is enough to make money with it, the other stuff I'm doing is to try to make even MORE money with it. Lol

So, I think you pushing forward with the knowledge you have gained from WA alone will take you to a place of earning. Once you get to a place where you're earning a good level for you, then you should learn new skills to see if you can earn more.

Yeah I really hope I will make a lot more money with the stuff I'm doing on YT. We shall see.

Best to you Jay!

Hi Grace,
It's good to hear from you and to know of your progress. Two things you shared resonates with me; driving traffic and learning more about email marketing.

I too have found that if I am to drive traffic I need to learn email marketing. Unlike you though, I've had no traffic on my site to date. I guess I need to churn out many more posts before the SEO begin to work for me.

I am also researching funnels, so far I like what am learning about them. Hopefully I will be able to implement that and see a change in my fortunes.

Continue to prosper.

Russell
Reply

Hi Russell,

You can certainly use the training here to drive traffic, this is one of the best ways to drive traffic is through blogging.

The way blogging works, you don't really need "sales funnels" per se. You will just set up certain "money" pages that you'll direct all your visitors too from your other posts. That's kind of what your sales funnel is on your blog.

The sales funnel you hear about is more for those who don't use a blog and are running more ad campaigns.

Sales funnels don't get you traffic.

So like you can use your blog to drive traffic to a sales funnel, but a page on your blog works just as well and you'll get more conversions from a blog because you can earn trust with the value you give in your blog content.

Email marketing is needed when your business is actually creating traffic. Without traffic and lead magnet (giving away something valuable for free), there's no point spending on any email autoresponders.

So this cost can be delayed until your blog is bringing in consistent daily traffic and you have a lead magnet set up.

Email marketing will certainly help with conversions as well when you get to that point.

To drive traffic from SEO, whether using blog posts or videos on YT, the key is consistency, so yes, if you haven't seen results, it means you need MORE of what you are doing.

If you still don't see results, you must increase your frequency per week.

That's how I've seen things work and I hope this helps you,
Grace

Well done on your efforts regardless of whether you have hit your bigger goals. You have done so well and deserve all that comes your way. That is so frustrating with Google, Readin Loes comments above, it sucks really. But the experienced like Vitality always say it comes back, just keep doing what we are doing!

As for me, I have done very little and have been busy outside of WA with other work for the past 6 months. One thing that has just given me a reminder here and the absolute AWESOME THING ABOUT WA and AFFILIATE MARKETING is that I have been paid month in month out with residual income and I have virtually done nothing! It is all from my previous blogging and work last year and the year before. Yip, this blogging thing does work!

If that doesn't excite me or get my ass back into gear then nothing will.

Many thanks for the update and congrats to you. You have certainly come along way since you started! June for me also has been a disaster - traffic flopped across many of my sites and sales almost halved for the month which is so disappointing.
2 questions if that is ok....

1. What video software are you using to create the youtube videos? I have tried biteable with limited success or do you use screencastomatic?

2. I have 4 FB pages also and they seem to be ok for now, what was the reason for them taking them down? Any tips that need to be avoided?

Many thanks and take care

Hi Paul,

You're so welcome and thank you for your update as well! Though, I wish I read a better June for you. So the June update also affected your other niche sites or are these mmo sites?

I use screencast-o-matic, there's a free and paid version (only about $15/year I think, I can get you 20% off if you want my affiliate link).

I was editing there as well but sometimes I also edit in iMovie too. There are certain things you can add to your videos that iMovie can't so if I need blurring or adding text where I want it (iMovie is limited in this), then I do that kind of stuff in screencast-o-matic. You can do everything in screencast-o-matic though.

I feel I have a sound issue, so I use iMovie to spike up my volume. I know I need to buy a real mic at some point, i just haven't done it yet.

I didn't get much reason from FB.. let me paste my answer I just typed up for someone else below for you here:

"FB - who the heck knows, I'm in the MMO niche so they don't like that. I was hardly doing anything with my Pages, so they just one day decided to do this. The Grace aka Littlemama page was very new too, i had a couple posts on it but they knew it was connected to my Work Anywhere Now Page (both were connected in my FB Group) so they took that too.

They just give reason of me violating their policies, that's it."

I only posted my blog posts on my main Page and the other one was new but FB can tell they were connected as they were both linked to my FB Group.

Other pages I have heard came down as well and it was a wide sweep so I'm not sure why yours wasn't affected if you're also in the MMO niche, are you?

This business is tough for sure and we will have to get through these trying times.

If we can get out of this, we can earn even MORE in the future.

I hope this helps you!

Hi Grace,

I also build my FB page which is connected to my MMO website.
I post regularly, whenever I come up with a new article.

I do post in other FB Groups and few days ago I had the same message that I violated some rules.
I have written them back, saying that I create reviews about MMO products and I do warn people against "scammy" products.

24 hours later they allowed me to post again.

Did you also contact FB support?

Oh, and from time to time I also run FB ads as well as boosting some posts for 10 bucks or something.

Sometime the Ad I create, is "in review" mode for a day or so.
sometimes it get disapprove. So I reply them to take a better look.
Eventually they let the ad run.

But I hear you.
This FB thing (MMO ads and so on) becoming more and more sensitive in my opinion and maybe it is a matter of time that they get me shut down as well, who knows :)

Anyways,
Wishing you more power and keep on rolling :)
Cheers

Hi, Grace,
You are just brilliant. I always love your updates.

As for Facebook and what they have done with your pages they are a pain in the butt. I am disgusted at them for bringing your pages down. They are really cracking down massively I do know that. I know how much work you have put into those pages.

The good thing though is the time you put into those pages can now be better time spent elsewhere. I would say definitely a good thing out of a bad thing.

That is where I want to step into is PPC. I am trying to learn as much as I can. Would love to know how you go with that Grace.

You are an inspiration Grace you are so brilliant and so transparent in all you do. I love reading about your accomplishments.

Grace you are my inspiration.

Thank you for keeping us up to date. You are a real Gem.

Hi Debs! So wonderful to see your sweet message. :)

Yeah I'm definitely not the only one that FB took down Pages from, there were a lot of others too.

I didn't need to do too much work on those Pages cuz they were automated posts on my WAN page, but my 2nd page was new like two posts and they took that one too.

Whatever, FB sucks, what else is new.

I'm going to start PPC with YouTube ads I think so I can get my Channel to the point to earn ad revenue. I'm thinking that's the best way for me right now.

I've only been doing solo ads really (the easy way out) because I always get banned with my niche... that's the thing I need to learn, how not to get banned so I can advertise. My WAN site gets banned all the time from ads, misleading, mmo, etc, so Solo ads seems easy to do with just doing campaigns for my niche but they haven't been profitable. Some people really can build their business just by solo ads which boggles my mind. I've spent over $1k on solo ads already without much results.

Thank you for always supporting my progress and updates Debs! You're too kind and sweet!!

I hope you are also doing very well in your business as well!! It seemed that way from the last update you had, I hope I didn't miss anything. :)

Hi, Grace,
Sorry for the late reply.

I havent posted much lately Grace. As you know the Website for the parking lot closed. So the money I was earning last year isn't as good. I had a good January and February. The biggest month from that was 7K.

I am doing another local parking lot but they have height restrictions so working with the TV crews and location managers isn't as easy as it used to be. I am still doing ok. Obviously not as good as last year. I have had a few events in but nothing spectacular to be honest.

So I am working on my MMO website. Still doing local business sector aswell. I am definitely looking into PPC though.

Keep me in your thoughts Grace with the PPC side of things if you hit on something really good. Would love to learn from your experiences.

Looking forward to your next update Grace. You are gem.

Sorry to hear about your health, I hope you're doing better now but yes, something like that can really sidetrack you. You will get your mojo back soon!

FB - who the heck knows, I'm in the MMO niche so they don't like that. I was hardly doing anything with my Pages, so they just one day decided to do this. The Grace aka Littlemama page was very new too, i had a couple posts on it but they knew it was connected to my Work Anywhere Now Page (both were connected in my FB Group) so they took that too.

They just give reason of me violating their policies, that's it.

They suck. Lol

Wow, this is such great information and confirmation for me. I’m a month into WA and I’ve noticed that the training doesn’t cover many ideal techniques that we need to succeed with our online businesses.

I’m continually told that WA has all that I need and I don’t need to look elsewhere, but this post of yours has confirm my personal thoughts and also the extra research I’m doing outside of WA to get my blog running and driving traffic.

Thanks so much for these updates and other vital information!! Please continue to share what you’re learning and also your updates as well little mama!! They are encouraging to us newbies and I’m sure everyone else!! God Bless!!

You have to master your craft. I always disagree with the people who say WA is the one-stop shop. There is no school on Earth like that! WA is a school, but there's information that can help you in your business in other schools as well.

It's important to focus on mastering skills rather than jumping from one program to another, but you can listen to other credible advisors to master your skills.

Hi,
I totally agree with Tiffany. I think for any newbie to think that way is heading for the shiny object syndrome.

Grace has only gone into deeper things after mastering everything Wealthy Affiliate has to offer first. Grace has worked hard for it and she still does.

Trying to run before you can walk isn't really the best way forward. As Tiffany says there is no other training platform on the internet like Wealthy Affiliate.

I would also seek out Graces training here she has shared with us they are real eye openers.

Hi Randi, you have misinterpreted my words. I've been here since 2016, I've gotten Vegas with JUST THE TRAINING HERE AT WA.

So YES, you DON'T need anything else to succeed here. So what you're hearing is CORRECT.

I'm at a level that is far advanced and learning things to get to another level.

The training here and all the tools here WILL get you earning already and you can earn a full time income just from the training and the tools here.

The way I drive traffic is STILL with the way WA taught me. If you haven't gone through the training and applied the training fully, then it will not work for you.

If you don't learn the fundamental elements of how to drive traffic with your blog, which is learned RIGHT HERE at WA, then you it doesn't matter where you go.

I'm learning on advanced topics that you would not even need at this point so please do not take my post as your confirmation of you needing something else to make your site a success because that is NOT what I'm saying in my post.

I'm in my 3rd year of my business, and to get to the next level, I need to do more learning, it's inevitable.

As a beginner, you are in very good hands with the training here at WA.

You have one of the best training here at WA.

Hi Randi, I just want to echo what Grace said. She is 100% right. There are a few who started around the same time I started (Oct 2016) and while I was struggling to get 100 or 200 visits a day they were qualifying for Vegas or getting close. They were also building email lists with thousands of subscribers while I spent 8 months just to get to 100 before pulling the plug on what I was doing.

The big difference is they stuck with the training here at WA.

I on the other hand went off and bought other courses and tools, tried paid traffic and a bunch of other things I thought would give me an advantage. Instead I wasted many thousands and it set me back at least a year.

Only then did I come back to WA and focus only on what WA teaches. My primary tasks every day were just good keyword research and quality content... nothing else. I didn't even put affiliate links in my content for nearly a year because I didn't want to get distracted or discouraged by a lack of conversions. I'm not sure that was a good idea though because it's taken me months to go back and update those posts and I'm still not done.

But I get it... progress can feel slow and especially if you're in the MMO niche with a bootcamp site you're surrounded by shiny objects and gurus saying their way is the best. But Grace is right, you have everything you need here, you just have to keep doing it.

I gave up all those shiny objects and just focused on keyword research and content at the beginning of 2018. In June of this year (last month) my site had over 70K new users and over 80K sessions. That's just keyword research and writing content which I learned here.

I've also been able to monetize that with the what I've learned here and with the help of other WA members including Grace who helped me with Ads.

Like Grace, I have taken other courses outside of WA recently but there is a big difference from when I was starting out and buying shiny objects. Shiny object syndrome never goes away but when you're starting out you're buying shiny objects trying to find what works and get faster "results". You're also buying shiny objects because you have doubts that what you're doing is going to work.

When you have results though, you buy shiny objects to improve certain "skills" to become a more well-rounded online marketer. It's an entirely different process.

One of the courses I took recently was to help me become a better writer so that my content is more engaging and converts at a higher rate.

Another that I'm currently taking is an email marketing course so I can diversify my skillset. But these are advanced courses to strengthen MY weaknesses, not Wealthy Affiliate's weakness.

Anyway... again, I just wanted to reiterate what Grace has said. She knows what she's talking about and her advice is incredibly valuable. Her success is what inspired me to get back on track and stop messing around with other strategies because I could see what she was doing (which she teaches in her Vegas training) and that it was working. In contrast, what I was doing was sucking the life (and money) out of me.

When people say you have everything you need here, it's true.

Sure, it would be nice if WA also had an email autoresponder built in (just as an example)... but if you're not getting a few hundred highly targeted visitors a day already, trying to build an email list and monetize it is just another distraction that will keep you from ever having 1000 visitors a day, 2000 visitors a day, and so on.

Anyway... sorry Grace for hijacking your thread here, I just wanted to reinforce your message because it's so important and I think a point of confusion for many.

Brilliant stuff Grace, thanks for the update.

So are the majority of your referals coming via your site and organic searches combined with YouTube?

Interested to know as my new site will be 2 months old in a couple of days and I want to make sure I focus my efforts in the right area. So that will be content production and how I structure the site and chatting to Roope I was also thinking YouTube.

My niche site is now 6 months old and is really just a passion but not so many options to monitise but beieng a complete newbie I wanted to see that process worked before marketing WA.

Last month it had 1600 visitors and I'm getting about 50 organic clicks per day and have at laest made enough sales to keep Aamazon happy.

Thanks again for the update

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for stopping by and giving me your update!

Referrals are coming in mostly still through my site, my YT channel is not getting enough views yet to warrant much referrals but they do come in from YT.

If you want to promote WA, I would concentrate on having both a blog and a YT channel, you'll need all the organic search traffic you can get.

Wow, that's awesome you're getting Amazon sales with only 50 organic clicks per day?!!

That's great, I would just concentrate on this niche site instead.

Why are you even starting a new WA site, it's a very hard niche that requires way more work to see any results.

If you concentrated on your niche site til it's earning $1K a month, you can then start another niche site to make more money this way.

Whatever niche that is, it's a great one I would really keep doing that site.

From my WA experience, I would kill for a niche site that can earn me with only 1600 visitors a month!

Promoting MMO niche takes so much of my time that I don't have time to build one of these niche sites I keep hearing about people earning with so little work effort.

Amazing! Keep up the good work, you can do whatever you wish, you got the formula down!

Thanks Grace good to know, thanks so much for taking the time to respond

The problem is my niche site is about the benifits of a plant based diet so there are not really lots of ways to monistise it. I set it up to learn the process and becuase it is a passsion.

I have two posts that are about the best plant based milk in coffee and also one that recommends good books and they are both page 1 in Google and the clicks come from them (so 50 odd posts that dont rank so well!).

Thing is you sell at $20 book and make $1.20 and I am only selling one or two per week. You can make money with the cooking side of things YouTube videos etc but thats not my area of expertise mine is the science side, plus its also super competitive.

I actually find that I enjoy the research and writing for the MMO site. Its becoming harder to write about my niche site as I now have all of the basics covered so I will continue to add at least a post a week and see where it leads, but for now will spend a few months focusing on the MMO site.

My aim is at least 4 posts per week and I have manged that over the first 6 weeks although at this early stage no clicks and only a few impressions.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond (oh and $1000 per month is just about where I want to be so fingers crossed I'll get there!)

Hi Kevin,

You probably have way more ways to monetize your site than you know.

For plant based diet, think about people who are making the meals for this, what do they need to make it? Certainly they need pots and pans? Blenders etc?

You can have all these kitchen tools/products on the side of your content or around your content as just affiliate products for your visitors to click on as they are reading your content.

You don’t even have to mention the affiliate products you insert into your content even.

You can also come up with a Start Up Guide to sell an ebook on your site at even $7 an eBook would make you way more than the $1.20 you’re getting from Amazon per sale.

There are tons of ways to monetize your site. This is a great niche if you are already earning and ranking #1.

Not all your posts will rank, but as your site gets more and more authoritative, more content will rank.

I hope this helps you! Best of luck with all your sites!

Thanks Grace, all good advice. I have thought of quite a few of these and I need to look at how best to add them without detratcting from the site (its like my baby!).

I realy only want to add things that I am really happy promoting and dont want the site to look cluttered and full of ads

But you are quite right I need to think out of the box a little. At the moment I'm just making sure I add at least one but ideally two good articles per week so it can increase its authority and rank.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond

Have a great weekend

You're welcome Kevin, you will get there. Continue writing for now and also look for more affiliate programs that has to do with cooking... but you can just look at Amazon for instance, they have so many kitchen products. When you offer plant-based recipes, you can include kitchen tools and supplies that one might need and that's how you can recommend more things on your site.

I love your posts so much! I know when I PM you, you're probably like "why does this lady want to be in my business?". Hahahaha. It's encouraging to see someone a little further ahead and the challenges and victories they experience, so thanks so much for the update!

I think Hotjar could help you a lot with seeing what your visitors are doing and helping you to hypothesize how to fix your conversions. Their free plan includes 100 recordings of your website visitors and heatmaps you may want to check out. It helps me tons with my conversions.

For me, June was my best month yet in terms of affiliate sales. I surpassed the 4-digit mark, but most of my commissions didn't come from WA.

I want more of my commissions to come from WA because I enjoy participating with my referrals here. Plus, many other affiliate programs are one-time pay out, you have to play the volume game, or they are less predictable with when they'll pay you.

WA pays you every month consistently and the commission is recurring. I think I prefer the retention and lifetime customer value game over the high volume or one-time commission options.

It's great to see that your business here is still going strong despite your time away and experimentation. Hopefully, you'll "find your groove" soon, and find the area where you can grow and enjoy the most.

Best wishes for you and Work Anywhere Now!

Hey Tiffany, LOL No, I didn't think that!

Yes, congrats again on hitting $1K this past month! It's an awesome milestone to hit. Keep it up!

I have heard about HotJar but never used it, okay, I will have to look into this. I'm sure this will help me figure some things out.

Having recurring commissions is what's been saving my @SS in JUNE. If it wasn't for recurring commissions, then I would make a lot less last month.

I was never away far, I'm still here everyday to attend to my referrals and make sure I know what's going on in WA. But yeah, I'm still working away hard at my business every week this whole year so I hope something in the next few months will really give me a new breakthrough.

Being called "a friend" of yours is an honor Grace whether here or wherever. I know you mentioned traffic and conversions as issues, and since you have the most control of your conversions, I think Hotjar can really help you out.

Once you get into PPC (and no one is banning you), then paid traffic will amplify all of your conversion work even more. I think the way you built your business with recurring commissions and other offers is great, but the recurring offers is really what I want to build more of. I just don't want to promote anything I'm not 100% confident about, and that rules out quite a few things.

With your persistence, I'm confident you'll have a breakthrough soon. I did a training on conversions that might give you some more ideas if you're interested. Maybe it could help you out? I know your training has helped me lots. I'd love to return some great value to you.

Here it is if you're interested: I have some pretty amazing success stories from people who have taken that training. Hopefully it helps you.

Thanks a lot for sharing this Grace.

I am 6 months old at WA and have just started getting some traffic on my website with no sales and $0 so far. My website has a total of 7 posts so far out which 3 are reviews and just before a week 3 of my posts including my WA review were ranked on 1st page of Google.

I was confused whether I should start an email list at this stage. But one of your answers in this post convinced me that I should just be concentrating on getting traffic as of now.

Your post serves as a great guidance as you have been through lots of ups and downs and it gives me a quite realistic picture of what should be coming my way in future and what I should be prepared for.

Please do keep on sharing such gems of knowledge as I believe they are no less than any training.

Hey Grace,

I really miss hearing from you and thank you for sharing.

I'm afraid I haven't been around a whole lot myself here other than check on my WA emails and answer from there. Over 1800...

I KNOW your traffic will pick up again... your determination will see to that! Your income in the past 6 months doubled to where you were last year at that time. Well done Grace! At the moment, I'm $0, lol.

I love how you have the courage to learn and try new things.

On Moi... well, I let me dive site go temporarily and decided to "try" again the Bootcamp and at this moment I'm in the SAC month 2.

I know I know... why did I do that??

Arrggg... are you familiar with colours? Anyway, I'm an orange, I'm a flighty person and therefore multi-task like crazy, love danger, and all that crazy stuff. I do finish all my tasks and yet I'm also a perfectionist.... my personality disorder, lol. Working on it.

So, I thought I could do this SAC better than last year which I backed out after a month because I didn't have the confidence.

Well now I do, I'm in my 2nd month of the SAC on a new site and writing reviews has now become my favourite. I have a template that makes a world of difference. I follow your training and go over them numerous times...

I remember the times you helped me, remember my yucky review? Thank you again a million times over.

I haven't done any email marketing and look forward to learning about it.

I also look forward to the day when I can help you and others to where I can fully give back with tons of knowledge to share...

I need to go diving somewhere this year, I think of it every day. Just spin the globe and place my finger on it and off I go... not a planner and hopefully there will be internet. 😂Live my other life!

I wish you a ton of success and happiness the balance of this year on your online business (yikes, can't believe I could be shovelling snow in 3 or 4 months).

Shark attacks are mostly on surfers because from below, they look like seals. The surfboard has the shape of a seal's body and the surfer's hands and legs look like that of a seal's.

Divers, swimmers and surfers are not their yummy meals. They like seals, fish, whales and sea lions. Humans are too bony for them, that's why they immediately let go when they bite.... I know it's still not a pleasant experience.

Having said that, they sometimes make mistakes like humans

Did you know you can rub a shark's belly and it goes into a tonic state of immobility? Orcas have been known to turn a shark over upside down and hold it down for over 15 minutes until it dies of suffocation.

Fascinating stuff...

OMG... ok, enough of this. Sorry...

Have a Blessed day Grace!

Thanks for all the shark details! Lol no I didn’t know about the belly thing, I’ll keep that in mind next time I snorkel with them. Lol I have snorkeled around some “safe” sharks one time. :)

You’re too funny Monica!

Question... may I please use your success stories in my SAC site.

I will take a screenshot of a story and put a link back to your story it that's ok with you.

Your income story made this business very real to me. Doubling your income in one year is no easy feat, especially when a few things worked against you. This actually gives me hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve only been here 6 months so a long way to go before I start making commissions. Thanks for sharing littlemama.

Hi Edwin, I'm really happy to be able to share these results with you to show you how this online business works. It's definitely a long term gig and more of a marathon than a sprint. There are no fast cash when building free traffic.

Now that you kind of know this, it will help you have a higher chance of success because most people don't realize this is a long term thing and they quit 2-6 months in.

You're going to do great here Edwin! Wish you much success!

Wow, Grace! Those are amazing results. Congrats. It's always inspiring to hear your results. I was at an all time low last month but I kept going because I just knew giving up won't do a thing.

Your update is so timely because it lifted me up.

Yes, I was part of your audience for the pages you're talking about and I was so sad to see that they have been taken off. But at least your group is still going and is very much active.

I have made it a must to contribute more this month.

My theme was bringing me down in May, got next to no referrals and absolutely no conversions in June, the month that I was aiming to make $1000 in, but no matter! Nobody could predict the trouble the theme gave me.

Now after a month using the new theme, I'm still getting less traffic (and I'm sure that the Google update was part of the problem) but I think I must be doing something right since my referrals have been up for the past 2 weeks.

So I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing and keep testing.

Wishing you the best and thanks for sharing. You're really an inspiration to me!

Hi,

You was taking about your theme. does premium or customize theme could have high impact on site and make it generate low traffic!? cause it makes site speed very low!?

why im asking cause i have Yoast theme, and i feel it affect my site being slowness, and honesty i want to make bold decision either changed it or keep it, depends on your answer!?

Thanks a lot,

You are incredible Reyhana!!

YOU WILL MAKE IT!

Your attitude about the June update is exactly the type of attitude that will get you success in the long term.

I really felt the same way. I want to quit.

But quitting is not the answer, is it?

The only way out of this is to keep moving forward like you're doing, you will WIN in the end, I know it.

Your new theme, I have heard changing themes can sometimes get you a hit in traffic because Google needs to learn your site again. Maybe submit a new sitemap?

But yes, from what your referrals are doing, it seems like you're converting them to get sign ups here so that's great.

You are doing all the right things girl and it's only a matter of time you will break through to that $1K mark!

Let me know if you need help,
Grace

You're still killing it despite the bumps in the road.

The June update wasn't kind to me either. Traffic went from ~1,200 to ~500 per day. Earnings nearly halved as well. I suppose that's why it's so important to diversify and build more than one main income stream.

Anyway, it was great to hear an update from you. Your work ethic is inspiring!

Hi Ian! Thanks for letting me know about your June as well... Yup, those numbers look familiar. lol

What have you been doing to make up for this loss?

You were doing really well too Ian, I hope you still are despite this June BS. Lol

I hope Google will smarten up and change the algorithm back.

I've been trying a few things... updated all my articles to reflect any changes with the sites/apps I review (no traffic boost though). I have more plans for the site which I haven't gotten to yet. I plan to add a bunch of new content (most likely outsourced), work on CRO, on and off-page SEO, featured snippet optimization, and will probably tweak the design a bit.

I've also been trying to diversify a bit and have started several new niche sites. Spent nearly $2k on content so far. I've also been planning the launch of an authority site...the business plan is all in my head for now though. I probably won't be able to launch it for a while yet, but we'll see.... I've taken on some major work and leadership roles at college so those will be top priority once the semester starts in August.

Honestly, besides major disappointment and a little stress, I'm not actually hurting too bad from the June update. As a student (with lots of loans...) it doesn't take that much to get by.

I'm very hopeful Google will make some adjustments soon that will reverse much of the damage, but if I know them right that won't happen. I think EAT will become more and more important with each update, hence my plans for an authority site (with real topic experts writing most of the content).

Affiliate marketing is still very much alive. Lots of sites were hit big in June, but all that traffic had to go somewhere...many sites are doing better than ever since the update.

Have you seen Spencer Haws' niche site case study? I've been following along from the start and he just revealed the domain name. His niche site does not seem to be hurting any from the update. It's like 9 months old and made $1200 in June.

Sorry for such a long reply. I should probably get back to work!

I so enjoyed your response Ian, thanks for taking the time!

Wow, you do have a lot of plans and a lot going on!

I have two writers but they are not expensive. I find that I’m having a hard time getting this written content reviewed and put on my site. This summer with family things going on has been tough getting a good schedule going, so I’m hoping in august when things get back to normal, I can get a better schedule going and start putting content back on my blog on a schedule.

Spencer Haws, no I haven’t, I will have to look him up. But that sounds amazing! Would love to follow him, thanks for the tip!

Where'd you find your writers (and how is the quality)? I've looked into UpWork and OnlineJobs.ph but have yet to hire specific writers, besides someone for a one-off job from iWriter. I get my content from a service called ContentPit and for the most part have been very happy with the quality.

Another guy to keep an eye on is Adam Enfroy. I only found him recently, but he's seen insane growth in traffic recently so I think he's worth following.

Hi Grace...I've been keeping an eye on your updates here and thanks for sharing all this info. It is inspirational for those of us still in the baby steps phase. I didn't realize that you could lose so much traffic from a Google update. Do you have any advice on things to avoid doing to prevent that or is it just something that happens? Either way that's really unfortunate because you've worked so hard. I hope things pick up for you but I'm super impressed on your earnings. That's really exciting news! Keep up the good work :-)

Hi Susan, Nice to see you here and thanks for your kind comment!

Yeah, I've survived many Google Updates. This last one though, it was really hitting sites like mine so I couldn't avoid it.

To prevent something like this and losing so much traffic, you will need to build several traffic sources. I didn't have that and so that's why I'm building my YouTube channel.

Things will bounce back, they always do, but it will take some time that's all.

That's why I need to do other things to ensure my income does not dip too much lower in the coming months.

These times are there to test you, I'm going to pass it.

Best to you Susan and wish you much success!

Thanks for your note Grace. Much appreciated! I guess it's important to diversify in terms of traffic sources for sure. Yes, life always is throwing us curveballs but if we keep going forward, we will succeed. If I can achieve half of what you've done in terms of income with this, I'll be happy.

Best wishes to you going forward, Grace!

"You need to celebrate, Littlemama." Thanks for this sentence. I think the past couple of months have led me into a darker time in my business and it's been hard to celebrate. However, you are RIGHT, I still need to see what I've achieved thus far and celebrate.

I'm still earning and, with more learning, I hope to increase those earnings in the 2nd half.

Thanks for the reminder!

I wish you much success Akoli!

Grace,

Superb! Congratulations on your well-deserved and hard-earned achievement! You are an inspiration for us all!

Would you be able to walk us through your typical daily / weekly schedule?

How would you recommend someone structure their day / week in terms of effort / time / goals / milestones in order to achieve the same level of success that you have?

Or if you already have a blog post that speaks to this, could you please share?

Please help those of us who are on a lower rung of the ladder to climb up to the summit, as you have! :)

Hi Hyder,

Thanks for your kind comment and I'm happy to inspire you!

I pretty much work Monday - Friday full time on my business, probably more than full time but it's flexible of course, I work when I can, but my work is consistent.

If I don't work as much during the week, I put in more work on the weekends.

That's probably one of the biggest thing I can advise is to be consistent in everything you do for your business.

Don't do spurts of work, whether it be blogs or YouTube channel or some other social media platform you want to build for free traffic, it takes consistent long term work to see results.

The ones I feel is best worth your time is your blog and YouTube channel. I've also heard great things about Pinterest but this must be used with Tailwind or else it's not going to work as well.

I hope this helps you,
Grace

Hi Derek,

Thanks, it’s been disappointing this year to say the least. Lot of tears! Lol 😭😭

But this is just another way of the universe testing me.

I will not let them win! Lol not sure who “them” is but I need to rise again soon.

Thanks for being there for me, you’re a true friend here! I appreciate you very much with all your advice you give me. ❤️👌🏼

You will win, I have no doubt about that at all!.

Might just be a way the universe is telling you to appreciate more and enjoy more what you have achieved so far and then it will give you more.

Putting it into perspective - $4k/month (average +/-) working from home and for yourself is pretty awesome and double national minimum.

You will win back that traffic, I have no doubt about that. Nobody more determined and solution focused than yourself.
