What should I do with my current website?

Have any of you ever just ditched your website and started over from scratch? That is what I need to do. New domain name and new website focus. It is in the same niche only a different area of the same niche.
So what do I need to do? Change the domain name and delete everything on the site and start again or can I somehow park the domain, delete the site, and just build new site from scratch?
Starting over is something I really need to do at this point, as I have found the avenue I needed to combine my passions into one niche so to speak.

What I would suggest Linda, rather than deleting your existing site and content, is to build your new site and have the old site refer everyone to the new site. That way if you have been indexed or ranked by the SEOs you should not lose that.
Do you mean just leave the site there and not add any more post or pages to it? Just leave it as it is but perhaps on the front page refer others to the new site? That does seem like a good idea however some of the information I have provided on the old site actually conflicts with what I am going to share on my new site. Does that make sense?
I did mean that. That what was done with my original SiteRubix site when I purchased my domain. Site Support redirected everyone to my new site if they clicked on the old site. The conflicting information is another situation. I do not have a suggestion for that I am afraid.
I have been thinking, and I think I can fix it or at least change the information on my old site enough that it does not conflict. Thank you so much for your suggestions. They have been very helpful.
