Google Review Algorithm Update

I'm not sure if you've been aware starting in April 2021 Google began its first product review algorithm update. The second update followed in December.

And now the third update is happening in March 2022 and they say it will take a few weeks to complete.

So why is this important to know?

Because these series of updates are designed to reward content that's created with first-hand research.

Google is also publishing new guidance on writing reviews. This way the reviews meet the search threshold.

Fancy talk for getting the best ranking in the SERP's.

I took a snapshot of the recommended criteria for reviews.

You can read all about this update on the Search Engine Journal website.

Talk soon.

I believe in you!

This is some great information Leo.
One question, is it best to link the resources used for the review?
That can lead visitors away from the review in my opinion.
However, I usually do list the source of information.
I'm not sure which is best linking, listing, or none?

John

You certainly don't want to send people away from your site unless it's to the product's purchase page.

As for linking to resources where I gathered my information, I don't.

Depending on the type of review I do however have a disclaimer before my reviews saying this is my opinion and that all the information researched for this review is available online within the public domain.

The only time I do link to resources is if it's to a statistics resource like Statista.com that supports what I'm talking about.

I review all my products first hand so should only be good news for me!

However from my experience of Google Updates they always just seem to be the same thing, reward big business and screw the little guy, while accidentally finding new loopholes for scammers, scrapers, and spammers.

Let's see as so far these review updates have gone pretty well for me!

Yeah, I know it may seems like that. But as I mentioned to Jeffory just be sure your content outshines your competition and you can get those coveted top spots in the SERP's

Thanks for the information.
Jerry

You're welcome

Thanks for this :-)

You're welcome

This sounds great for me and my reviews (hopefully) but for most of my competitors that doesn't sound so good, as they just rank well by just repeating what you can find on the internet and not from personal real-world experience. A much-needed update!!!
Thanks for the info!!!

Yep, most reviews are done through research, not actual usage.

However, that's something that's not going to change anytime soon.

I still find, while searching competition, pages that provide a stack of amazon Buy boxes, with zero content, and with page 1 rank, Still scratching my head.

If it's from Amazon that's because of the huge authority they have. If it's from thin sites, those will go away eventually.
