So, I Started a Meetup Group
Just got in a few minutes ago from an 8 mile 3 hour hike around a nearby lake. The picture above was taken from the Dam near the parking lot where we started 3 hours earlier.
This is Lake Frederick near Front Royal VA and another favorite spot of mine. This one is open to the public (supposed to get a day pass or annual permit) and is great for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and hiking.
No power boats allowed (can put them in but can’t start engine - electric trolling motors or paddles only). Probably because there are lots of stumps and wood under the water in certain areas of the lake.
I have thought about doing this for years but was always too busy - and I still am!
But I did it anyway.
We are going hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding primarily - and other things as interests and situations permit.
Today was hiking.
Weekend after next is Kayaking and weekend after that is mountain biking. Then we will see what people want to do.
30 members so far and growing by a couple or so per day. So far it’s a lot of fun - and basically just inviting people to come along with me on things I’ve already been doing anyway.
Tomorrow I’m kayaking my own lake where I live (Lake Holiday) and giving the paddle board a break. Not a meetup outing and no one going with me. I love friends but also gotta have some alone time too.
It was a great hike and a beautiful morning - though my body is feeling it as that’s about twice as far as I have gone in a long time - and much of it was up and down steep hills.

It seems like at one point we did discuss that you lived close to me. I have a HS friend out your way. You have some nice vineyards out there
In any case, I just joined a meet up group here in Stafford/Fredericksburg area but we're only doing 4 miles. I haven't participated yet but it's just for hiking. I kayak with our Stafford County Park and Rec group. It sounds like you have a nice, well rounded group.
Enjoy. It's nice to have a group that you can do things with. I'm like you though. I need some alone time. It would be AWESOME to live on a lake!

As to living on a lake it s a really great thing. My home is not on the water but it’s in a private community that surrounds a private lake we all own - and it’s 4 minutes from my drive way to the boat launch if that.
If you like look up Adventure Recreation Group on Meetup, and you can also find our site and YT channels by the same name though they are barely up and running they are at least active as I build them out.
