Do you remember your first products?

What did you make, do or sell as your first venture into business and entrepreneurship?

Here are a couple of our first actual products from our first business many years ago;

This cute little critter was designed to sit on the corner of a door or window. We sold a lot of these - mainly as kits the customer would complete. They got the ruff cut bear, a little piece of sandpaper, an art template trace, and basic instructions in a sealed bag.

The very first order was for an art therapy provider and family member who had asked me if we could come up with something for her.

I said sure - but there was just one catch.

Her business would only buy from another actual business and not just an individual. So that resulted in me getting us our first ever business license and our first of many large orders.

We developed more products - here is our second design:

It also was designed to sit on a window or door frame, or on a shelf.

Just like the bear, the cat was sold to lots of people over a few years. How old are these pics? Just a few days ago ; )

How old are the products? 30+ years and counting. They have been with us through our travels in life for a long time and now sit above the entrance to our bathroom door - one on each side.

We added all kinds of other things and designs and later we made and sold soap, candles, crates, and many other things. But these were the very first actual physical products we ever created as a business.

How about you?

Have you made (or do you make) any physical products to sell?

How about digital products or any other products or services?

Share your pics and your stories below - and have a great day!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

I have not actually made any products to sell online. Thirty years ago I made a sample washer that we rented to an oil company that we were working for. The samples were drilled with oil-based mud and were difficult to wash by hand, but with our washer, they were better.
That went well for the year or so we worked for them.

I really have no experience selling anything except for Beatle stuff at a Beatlefest in L.A. about 35 years ago. That was only 1 day and I made about $1700 in one day. I had originally paid nothing or very little for these things and people just bought them all I had to do is stand there and collect money. As a result, I really don't know how to sell anything unless it sells itself. Affiliate marketing doesn't seem all that "salesy", so I can do this!

Barbara

Barbara, that is great and a very good amount of money for one day!

I think the best salespeople in the world at NOT salesy at all... and they choose the right products to ad value (much like affiliate marketing) and the rest is relatively easy.

I know you can do this affiliate marketing thing... and marketing other things too if you CHOOSE to do so ; )

Thanks, LD! I never thought of that Beatlefest experience in that way!

Thanks for that viewpoint!

As a free gift, I designed a couple of easy to make fishing lures.

That sounds like a good potential niche - I know some people who are almost fanatical about fishing and they certainly pump a ton of money into stuff they need and want.

That's my niche. It's okay as a niche, but I miss calculated even as an avid fisherman myself. They like to touch and feel what they buy unless they have used the item before.

The only physical things that I sold are my paperback books through Amazon, LD. I am a reseller of custion finds though, and that has been lucrative over the years!

Jeff

That's great Jeff - and I know some people who do very well reselling their finds too. Sounds like a potentially good Income Production Opportunity - and one that could be fun too.

I am happy it has worked out for you over the years and continues to do so.

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Thanks, LD! Much appreciated, my friend!
