My First Post: A Walk In Winter Wonderland
We had some serious snow not to long ago, fifteen inches to be exact but a lot for us. Not to long before that we had a small teaser of a snow of about three to four inches, more of a dusting as it came fast and disappeared even faster.
With our nice fifteen inches of snow we got it came in slow and took over a day to deliver the full amount of snow. At first it was the nice soft powdery stuff. You know the kind, the stuff that you just love to play in and then go inside and have some hot chocolate and watch it snow. This snow that came so slowly stayed around for close to week, keeping everything nice and white, and wet. The first few days it was nice to sit by the window and watch the neighborhood come to life, all the kids were out of school and many made snowmen of all sizes and shapes. We had to take our cats, dog, and Parrot out to check it out.Quite comical to watch them. At night when the street lights glowed on the snow covered yards and streets, it was lit up and very peaceful just to look at.
On the second day of the snow, I got a bit bored and decided to go for a walk and get some pizza to bring home. The walk to the pizza parlor was only three miles one way, an easy journey some might say. However, I stand five foot three and I had not walked in the snow for a number of years and we only had fifteen inches of snow. No problem, not to difficult, no challenge right? I put on my rubber boots, my first mistake and started out the door. In route, I came across several vehicles that were stuck and desperately needed a helping hand and a bit of a push. I volunteered my services and quickly found that getting traction in rubber boots is more then a challenge. I did not give up and in my process helped four people get unstuck on the way to the pizza parlor and five on the way back. Many people were grateful for the help and thanked me, a couple simply left with out even a wave of the hand. One gave me the finger gesture and one sprayed me down with mud and muck.
I continued on my journey and decided to take a shortcut across a field, knowing from living in Denver for a year that looks can be deceiving and I might find the snow deeper then thought. I live in Oregon and we seldom get snow drifts but I had forgotten that the wind was blowing and half way across the field I found my self waist deep in snow. No problem, just a slight change for plans, so on with my walk I went. I stopped first at Fred Meyers to get some soda to go with the pizza. Unknown to me Fred Meyers had just replaced there floors with new tile. I thought I had entered an Ice Skating Rink, for the life of me, I could not keep my feet under me.
Not one to give up, I continued on to the pizza parlor and put in my order. I did not expect it but my son called worried about me, it had been three hours since I left to go get pizza. I got home just after dark. I waited a few days and then I ventured out for another walk and this time I went for a shorter walk. I had planned to walk about a mile out and back. As soon as I left the house the first car passed me and sprayed me down. Oh I forgot to mention that our beautiful snow was now melting and leaving more water then snow in its place. I shortened my walk but refused to give up, I walked about a half a mile out and back and got sprayed more times then I can count.
In the adventures of our snow and my walks in Winter Wonderland, I had to stop and reflect that my walk although a challenge, I did not give up but continued on. I over came challenges and learned what not to do for my next walk in Winter Wonderland. Just as in Wa, I will have many challenges but I will learn what works and what not to do in my next step of building my online business.

VA just gets shut down when there's 2 inches of snow. I grew up in Upstate NY so I understand snow......not sure I'd venture out like you did though. If you're that determined, you should do well here.
I will be in your neck of the woods around the first of July, thinking of spending 4th of July in Washington DC.
That was a very touching story only due to my growing up in that kind of weather, except we had about three feet, in Michigan and had to walk to high school every day. We did not have a hard time, in fact it was rather fun especially when you could slide across the puddles of ice. For me it brought back a lot of memories.
Thanks Ladydi
Yeah, I remember the joys of childhood and the joys of motherhood. I grew up in the woods because my father was a logger/truck driver and boy could the snow get deep in the woods. Thanks for sharing with me.
Thanks for sharing your snow story. It was indeed a wild winter this year. In Utah we had snow on the ground from the first week in Oct until the first week of Mar. Information overload is the biggest problem here at WA. Remember to take breaks now and then. Best wishes for your time here at WA
Golly and I thought we had it bad, you all really got it bad, almost like the east coast. Yeah I have discovered that if I get to frustated from information overload that taking a day or so off to just reflect makes a big difference for me. I have to be careful though and not let that time of reflecting get to big for me..thanks for the great wishes.
