How I Keep Rankings in Google Without Creating New Posts

People are often surprised when they look at my websites as to how I am still retaining awesome first page rankings in Google and other search engines when I am not regularly posting content.

Obviously I would create more posts on my site on a regular schedule if I had more time and if that was the only component of my business. In fact, I would be posting new “keyword targeted” posts everyday. That is ultimately how you scale a business.

However, I post when I get the opportunity to...sometimes this is once per week, sometimes it is once per month. It just depends what my workload is looking like with the projects that are always taking place behind the scenes at WA and managing and keeping Wealthy Affiliate up to date in general.

But the last thing I let happen is let my websites suffer with NO content. That would be the demise of my rankings and the REASON I am able to outrank many of the more so called “big brand sites” online is because Google still views my website as an authority.

If I am not creating new posts, why would they ever consider me an authority? I mean, I am not creating any new content right?

WRONG.

I still generate tons of fresh, new, and relevant content on my site. But how?

In a Word, COMMENTS!

Comments Are Content!

Some of my most popular and highest ranking posts have the most comments and the best dialogue. Not comments like “nice article”, rather through insightful, opinionated, helpful, and even at times very negative comments. I respond to every single comment on my website, which yields even more conversation.

These add value to my readers. Google loves valuable pages. Therefore as I build content that gets this high level of engagement, Google naturally loves my site and will continue to assign me authority.

So, although I may not be regularly updating my actual page/post content itself, it is always being updated through the discussions taking place in my comment threads. This over time will lead to substantial posts on your site, in fact, I have pages/post on my website that have well over 50,000 words simply because of the comments.

That is huge and there is no way another person's post with 1,000 words is going to walk in and take my rankings away from me with ease.

SEO Sustainability = Social Content.

Don’t confuse “social marketing” with social content. Social content is making your content lifelike, interactive, and continual. This is done through comments.

Sustaining and maintaining your rankings in Google has never been more important as now as more and more content is constantly being pushed into search engines often times you will need a distinguishing factor between the other content out there besides just the quality of your content.

If you want to get rankings and KEEP THEM, think no further than valuable comments. It will make all the difference in the world.

Thanks

Hey Kyle you are so right. Last time I check one of your site in the #1 position you had 493 comments. Glad to know you are the Leader of this awesome community. I commend you and Carson for that. PEACE!

Yeah, those are some of the posts that over time really grow and really continue to add up. People are far more inclined to leave a comment within an active thread, so comments lead to more comments.

Very true, comments keep it fresh! Thanks, Kyle.

Great post - thanks

I love this. Never realized the value of my reader's comments, but I do now. Kyle thanks for this post. Everything I read from you gives me ideas. I am constantly thinking of new articles to ad to my site. I've got my memo app on my phone with "to write" titles of articles thanks to you, Carson, and my other Affiliates.

Thanks Kyle,great advice.

Thank you very much. Makes me view conments differently. Some comments on my site are definitely coming from non-human spam, but I get what you are saying. Blessings. Esther

Thanks Kyle- Going to leave some comments right now and more regularly in the days ahead!

There is value in your statement. However you might add the length your site has been around. I have a site I built around six years ago that I very rarely add content to or answer comments on and it ranks #1 The value of time has a lot to do with your ranking is all I am saying. When your first starting out it is wise to become a authoritative entity by adding original content on a regular basis. I have found that my past sites I have created also help me with my present sites. As I am connect. Google knows who I am. Build your business to gain time under your belt and this will help with any future creations. One of the major reasons Kyle says not to give up. The future is in front of you. Thanks Kyle for this write up J B

This is a really good post and Jeff you make a valid point also but I do think it also depends on what your audience is looking for and who you are targeting.

A.P

Length of site doesn't play that much of a role once you get through your breakthrough stage which is usually around the 3 month mark. A "stale" site can actually lose a lot of Google authority if it is not active and if you are not updating it regularly.

Time can definitely be on your side if you are proactive with your site, but if you are not, then the rug can slip out from under your rankings and authority rather quickly.

Hmm that's very interesting information to note. That's good and bad to know at the same time. It's good for those who have sites for years and bad for those just starting out. Time is unfortunately one of those factors out of our control.

That is very true, I try to keep my site updated regularly, I have yet to build my site on here and I do think that social media is a very powerful tool to engage with your audience. I'm sure you all know that eitherwise you wouldn't be on here.

Hi Kyle,
That was a real eye opener. I suspected, but I wasn't really sure. Thanks for the info and keep 'em coming....Dick
