Slipping in the rankings, but working hard
I have watched my rankings on WA slip greatly in the last few months.
I try not to worry about the number. I know I am not as active on here as a lot of people. I really only have the time to work on this on the weekends. For awhile I tried to work on it in the evenings, but after a long day at work ( I have a very physical job) it really got to be too much.
With that said, the good news is that business is good so I have had to do more with my day job.
So I do have a question here about my webpage. Here is my dilemma.
I have a website that someone built for me a few years ago. It ranks locally pretty well and so I have just left it alone. The reason I came to WA was to learn how to do it myself because it is really hard to get my web developer to do any updates to the site. The domain name is abqmassage.com which is really a great domain for my business and the area that I live in.
I decided to teach myself with the domain name abqmassage.net which I originally envisioned as a sister site to the abqmassage.com. I changed my mind after I began to see how easy it is to create your own website. And so I started designing it for my business here in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA). I created a page for the blog roll and eventually I want to review products and get the affiliate marketing ball rolling, hopefully creating some trust with the site.
I keep hearing that dot-net domains have a hard time ranking with Google. So I think I need to maybe start developing the site withe the dot-com domain. Does anyone have any thoughts on moving the hosting here to WA with the least amount of hassle? There are actuAlly a lot of design elements I would like to keep from the old site.
Abqmassage.com is the old site.
Abqmassage.net is the new site.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
Kurt

Hi there Kurt. :) How you been buddy?
First off don't worry about your WA rank.... It's just a metric to measure how much people are active here.
You won't be doing your business any good or making more money by being a top ranked WA member.
Focus on your business. That's where the money is.
As for the .net domain; It's a completely legible domain and it too can become success.
My favourite blog is a .net and it is INSANELY successful. (www.problogger.net)
As for moving the hosting to WA, I suggest you get in touch with WA support and they will guide your every step. They always respond within minutes:

Just tell them what you need to do and they will take care of the rest.
Hope you're enjoying your time at WA. :) If you have any questions just let me know.

Hey Chris! Good to hear from you. Thanks for the comments. I figured the ranking didn't matter much.
So here's another question for you...should I maybe just keep working on the .net site for now and get it ranking and then move the .com site hosting over. The .com does rank and brings in business for me now. It just needs some updating that I want to start doing myself.
Basically the .net and .com are functioning the same (driving business to my local massage business).
I'm not even sure I'm asking the right question...Thanks again for helping me find WA. It has been a real blessing in my journey to learn this stuff.
Best.
Kurt
If the .com is earning you money then my advice would be to get that under your control as soon as possible.
Once you have that then decide if you want to keep the both.
I don't see how creating the same type of content for 2 different sites will help you get more sales. In the search engines you're basically in competition with yourself.
On a side note, consider registering your business with Google Pages. Having your offline business verified by Google will make you so much easier to find. (There's training on how to do that on WA)
Hope this helps buddy :)
I'm here for you.
I have already registered on google pages and yes it helps.
I think you hit the nail on the head about my concerns for the two web sites when you say:
" I don't see how creating the same type of content for 2 different sites will help you get more sales. In the search engines you're basically in competition with yourself."
Thanks for that. I think the next step is getting control of my .com

I like both, but prefer the .net more....just my opinion.
